We hope and pray that this letter finds you well.
We miss you all very much, and we think of youoften. We have just completed our third monthhere in Shell, so we praise God for that. We think time is going by fast because there are really nodefined seasons here. It doesn’t seem like it is
November already. The temperature is the samenow as it was when we got here in August. Also,
we have been really busy ministering and gettingused to life here on the edge of the jungle.
The girls have adjusted so well. They are almoststarting to talk in Spanish without thinking aboutit. Even when they are speaking English some
Spanish words slip out. It is quite amazing howfast they’ve adapted to the language and culture. Mary really loves the language, and
thinks that she may want to be a linguist one day. Vivi loves the food, the language, the people, basically everythingEcuadorian. We wish you could hear her
singing to her babies in Spanish. They
have just completed their first semester at Nate Saint Memorial School, and they both did fantastic, especially considering
all the changes they had to endure in sucha short period of time. They are both a
blessing.
April wants to remind you all to please
continue sending us your Christmas cards. Our address is:

It’s the small things that matter most. We will miss being home
for Christmas this year, but theentire staff will be here at Casa deFe to celebrate Christmas with the
kids. We know that will be a blessing to us all.

We didn’t get to trick-or-treat for Halloween, but we did get the girls some
‘goodies’ from a store that sells North American candy! In Ecuador, they don’tcelebrate Halloween. On November 2nd, Ecuadorians celebrated a religiousholiday called, Día de los Difuntos (Day of the Dead). People visit the graves of deceased family members to pay respects and clean up the grave sites. Thewhole family comes to the cemetery with flowers, cards, paint brushes and
buckets of cement to beautify the graves. Leading up to this day, street vendorssell a traditional food, uaguas de pan (decorated bread dolls-pronounced
wa-wa’s) and a traditional drink, colada morada (a sweet drink made from blue-
berries, blackberries and pieces of other fruit mixed in). Our friends here call Halloween, “Dia de la bruja,” or ‘day of
the witch’ . We told them that, in reality, it is ‘dia de caramelo’, ‘day of candy’. We enjoy learning about the different
Ecuadorian traditions and holidays, firsthand.
Please continue to pray for us as we minister to so many needs here. In future newsletters, I will try to share somestories and circumstances from the children’s lives. Suffice it to say that this is a home for abused and abandoned
children. I’ll do my best to paint a picture of what they’ve had to endure and overcome to get here; and once here, their hopes, dreams, and how they see their future. It is a blessing to be a small part of what God is doing here. Thanks for
being a part of it with us. You are a blessing to us.
Grace and peace to you all.
