GOVERNANCEGOVERNANCE
Patrimonia highly values the compliance to legal requi-
rements, loyalty and integrity. We have signed the ASIP
Charter and put in place our own governance rules cove-
ring the aspects of organisation, behaviour, transparency
and communication. Patrimonia is also a member of Ethos,
the Swiss Foundation for Sustainable Development.
An independent foundation
The management of Patrimonia is totally independent
from any third party: no interest-bearing shareholders, no
dependence on intermediaries and a team that is specifi-
cally dedicated to the administration of the foundation. In
this way, Patrimonia works in the interest of its affiliates and
insured members.
verwaltung gewidmet. Bei Patrimonia stehen die Interessen
der angeschlossenen Arbeitgeber und ihrer Versicherten
im Mittelpunkt.
Kommentar zum Geschäftsjahr 2014REICH AN AUSWEITUNGEN UND HERAUSFORDERUNGEN
Comment on the financial year 2014MANY DEVELOPMENTS AND CHALLENGES
twicklung.
alternative Anlagen). Ausserdem schlossen wir ein neues
«Sale & Lease back»-Immobiliengeschäft ab.
The year 2014 was rich with developments for the Patrimonia
Foundation and we continued our efforts to hit our targets.
Growth policy
To begin with our growth policy: the total number of active
insured rose by 14,3%, that of pension benefit beneficiaries
by 10,1% and affiliations by 9,9%, while our balance sheet
total rose by 16,5%. These figures all reflect the liveliness of
the Foundation which we intend to strengthen further with
the recruitment last autumn of a new staff member, André
Eicher, who is responsible for our commercial development.
Then, there have been changes in our asset management
with the reallocation of mandates for various asset classes
(new mandate Swiss equities, closure of an alternative
management mandate). We also finalised a real estate
transaction on a “sale and lease back” basis.
We had begun the discussion about introducing a degree
of flexibility into the management of savings assets in
excess of the compulsory requirements, subject to cer-
tain conditions. We are pleased to have found a solution
with the Fondation pour cadres et dirigeants d’entreprises
(FCDE). This was made possible by the convergence of
views among the two foundations and by political break-
through on the issue of liability in the event of a funding
shortfall for vested benefits.
The year ended positively with a result of 8,35% (the ave-
rage for Swiss pension funds has been assessed at 7,73%
by Credit Suisse and at 7,4% by UBS).
Aufhebung des Mindestkurses mit beschränkter
Auswirkung
Die Aufhebung des Mindestkurses CHF/EUR am 15. Januar
Limited impact of the end to the currency peg
The discontinuing of the CHF/EUR currency peg on 15
January last was a reminder – if any needed! – that you
are never far from the bottom! The prudent policy of sys-
tematic hedging of our currency exposure on index-linked
mandates enabled us to limit the impact of this change.
Given the fact that the economic environment is hard to
forecast while substantial pressure is being exercised on
the ecosystem of the welfare plans, the Board of the Foun-
dation has decided to allocate the outstanding result 2014
as a matter of priority to an additional contribution to the
insured’ savings accounts (3% on the total instead of the
compulsory minimum of 1,75% on the compulsory part). A
share of our result is then set aside for the financing of a
further reduction of the pension benefit discount rate (from
3% to 2,75%) and to finance the transition from the periodi-
cal actuarial tables to the generational tables. Finally, the
rebuilding of the assets value fluctuation reserve (the fun-
ding ratio of occupational benefit commitments adds up to
108%) was the object of a further allocation.
Prey of political stakes
The world of occupational benefits remains as usual the
prey of political stakes which scope is difficult to assess
at this stage. The explanatory statement by the Federal
Council on the welfare system reform 2020 was published
on 19 November 2014. The amendments original to the
draft open to consultation are minimal but welcome. We
are nevertheless left with the lasting impression of a project
which is lacking in both clarity and political courage!
The Patrimonia Foundation has acquired the means to
address the numerous future with challenges. This is a source
of motivation for us and strengthen all the more our role.

Patrimonia is an independent occupational benefits foun-
dation as per the Federal law on occupational retirement,
survivors and disability benefits (LPP). Our mission is to be
the reference partner for companies that opt for active
management of their second pillar.
Der Deckungsgrad stellt das Verhältnis zwischen dem
Gesamtvermögen der Vorsorgeeinrichtung und ihren
gesamten Verbindlichkeiten gegenüber den Versicherten
dar. Ein Deckungsgrad von 100% oder mehr bedeutet, dass
die Vorsorgeeinrichtung ihre Verbindlichkeiten vollständig
gedeckt hat.
The funding ratio expresses the ratio between the total
assets of the occupational benefits scheme and the total
commitments in favour of insured members. A funding ratio
equal to or greater than 100% means that the institution
fully covers its commitments.
The interest rate is the amount credited each year to the
insured members’ account. Its minimum is set each year
by the Federal Council on the basis of the forecast return
on investments. Since its creation in 1984, the Patrimonia
Foundation has regularly been able to pay a higher rate
of interest than the legal minimum to its insured members.
