Barocksaal, der heutigen Nutzung entsprechend, zu beleuchten?

Die Skizzen und Texte dieser Seiten weisen auf markante, stilgeprägte

Grundformen und Details von Leuchten hin und helfen, sie unter-

schiedlichen Baustilen zuzuordnen.

When with great care and considerable efforts, historic monuments of

eras past are restored, it is almost a compelling question: how should

a Gothic cellar, a hall of the Renaissance or Baroque be illuminated in

accordance to the application these days?

The schemes and texts on these pages refer to a clear-cut and cha-

racteristic style of basic forms and details of luminaries and enable to

ascribe different architectural styles.

GOTISCHE SCHAFTKRONENVom 14. bis zur ersten Hälfte des 15.Jh. wird der Schaft aus gegossenen und abgedrehten Messing- Ziergliedern hergestellt. Typisch sind fl ache Messingarme und Maßwerkverzierungen.

Gothic shank chandeliersFrom 14th up to fi rst half of the 15th century, the shank is produced with twisted-off ornamental parts in cast brass. Classic examples are the fl at arms in brass with ornamentations.

In der zweiten Hälfte des 15.Jh. sind die Zierglieder des Schaftes runder. Die Arme gleichen Ranken und Ästen mit Blättern und Früchten.

During the second half of the 15th century the ornamental parts of the shank are much rounder. The arms were similar to tendrils and branches with leafs and fruits.

BAROCKZEITFür die sogenannte Flämische Krone des 17.Jh. ist ein kräftig profi lierter Schaft und eine große Kugel mit Pinienzapfen oder Ring als Abschluss typisch.

Baroque eraThe so-called Flemish chandelier of the 17th century has the following typical features:The shank has a lot of profi le and a big bowl with pine cones or a ring at the bottom.

BAROCKZEIT 17. und 18.Jh. Englisch Barock (Queen Anne): Schwere, kantig facettierte Querschnitte. S-förmige Arme mit markanten Einschnürungen und Wülsten in der Mitte. Die Lampen stehen auf fl achen, vieleckigen Tellern.

Baroque period 17th and 18th century English Baroque (Queen Anne): Heavy, facetted and squared cross-sections. The arms are formed like an S with signifi cant notches and bulges within the middle. The luminaries are fi xed on fl at polygonal plates.

FRANZÖSISCH BAROCKViel Volumen, jedoch mit fl ießenden Konturen und reich gegliederten Profi len mit gerundeten Kanten.S-förmige Arme bestehen aus zwei halbrunden Teilen mit pfl anzlich anmutenden Details.

French BaroqueA lot of volume, however, with fl owing contours and profi les with rounded edges, which are richly arranged. The arms are made in S-form and consist of two semicircular parts with vegetable details.

KLASSIZISMUS 1750-1830Unter dem Eindruck der Erforschung der Antike werden die klaren, gesetzmäßig gebundenen Formen des klassischen Altertums zur Norm. Der Englische Klassizismus wird von Adam, Hepplewhite und Sheraton geprägt. Ihre Bauten und Interieurs kenn-zeichnet die sparsame Verwendung klassischer Motive. Sie beeinfl ussen den Stil Louis-Seize in Frankreich.

Classicism 1750-1830In accordance to the exploration of the Ancient World the clear and regularly bounded forms of the classical antiquity become the norm. The English Classicism is determined by Adam, Hepplewhite and Sheraton. Their buildings and interiors refl ect the economical use of classical subjects. They infl uence the style of Louis-Seize in France.

ROKOKO 1720-1780 (Louis Quinze)Die Rocaille, eine asymmetrische, aus Muschelmotiven entwickelte Grundform, die an Pfl anzen erinnert, prägt in ungezählten Variationen die Innenarchitektur. Leuchten haben zur Verstärkung der Lichtwirkung möglichst viele Refl exionsfl ächen. Glas- und Kristalllüster, u.a. aus Venedig und Böhmen, sind zeittypisch.

Rococo era 1720-1780 (Louis Quinze)The so-called ‚Rocaille‘ is an asymmetrical basic form developed from mussel subjects, which remind to plants. The interior design is characterized by numerous variations. Luminaries have a lot of refl ective surfaces to increase the light action. Chan-deliers of glass and crystal produced in Venice and Bohemia e.g. are typical for that period.

Aus dem Louis Seize entwickelt sich unter Napoleon I. das Empire. Reicher Schmuck mit Lorbeerkränzen, Adlern und Waffen-bündeln ist bei weitgehender Beibehaltung der Grundform typisch.

Within the era of Napoleon I., the style of Louis Seize develops to the Empire style. Rich ornamentations with laurel wreaths, eagles and bundles of weapons are typical, although the basic form is kept as far as possible.

Bedeutende Baumeister des Klassizismus in Deutschland sind u.a. Weinbrenner, Klenze und Schinkel.Das Biedermeier ist eine bürgerliche Variante. Die abgebildete Wandleuchte geht auf einen Entwurf von Schinkel für eine Win-denblütenkrone zurück.

Important architects of the Classicism in Germany are: Weinbrenner, Klenze and Schinkel.The Biedermeier period is a bourgeois variation. The shown wall luminaire dates back to a design of Schinkel for a chandelier in a bindweed fl ower style.

AM ANFANG DER MODERNEDie zweite Hälfte des 19.Jh. brachte wesentliche Beiträge zur Verbesserung der Beleuchtungstechnik (Petroleum, Gas, Glüh-lampen). In formaler Hinsicht war sie jedoch nicht schöpferisch, sondern beschränkte sich auf die fabrikmäßige Herstellung von Kopien aller Stile der Vergangenheit. Die Bewegung des Jugendstils (1895-1910) lehnt Nachahmungen ab. Der Jugenstil erneuert das Kunsthandwerk in der Zielsetzung, eigenständige, schöne Formen mit der Zweckmäßigkeit und materialgerechter Gestaltung zu verbinden.

The beginning of the modern ageThe second half of the 19th century gives essential contributions to the improvement of the lighting technique (petroleum, gas, incandescent lamps). In that formal score it is not creative, but limited to the production of copies of all styles of the past. The movement of the art nouveau (1895-1910) refuses imitation. The art nouveau renews the arts and crafts in their target to combine independent and beautiful forms with a functional nature and a creation combined with the material.
