Congratulations to the Studio Time group, Mr McDonald and Miss March on a wonderful performance at CAPERS in Tamworth last Friday and Saturday evenings. A number of Moree Public School parents and staff, including myself, were able to travel for the Saturday night performance and join a full house at the Entertainment Centre. While it was a very late night I’m sure everyone would agree, the concert was most definitely worthy of the trip. The group performed extremely well in front of an audience of several thousand people performing a new song, Out of the Box specifically written by Studio Time for the CAPERS show. This experience will give the children memories to treasure for the rest of their lives. Our thanks go to Mr McDonald for giving his time after school each week working with the group to write and record the songs and to Miss March who has choreographed and taught the dance routine. The MPS item for CAPERS was unique, being the only school, aside from the secondary soloists to be invited as featured artists. Congratulations, Chloe Brazel, Ameyla Brooks, Lucy Carter, Emily Di Donna, Ava Kellett, Eda Kucukozmen, Aastha Kumar, Laura and Madelyn Penfold, Evie Smith, Natalija Stanojevic, Ashlyn Tape and Eliza Watts! Their stage presentation in pink was eye catching and appreciation goes to Mrs Sylvia Broderick (Sylvia’s Fabrics) and Mrs Nola Kite for their assistance in creating the costumes. Kinder Orientation Day held last Tuesday, saw many new and familiar families enrolling for Kindergarten in 2016, visit MPS. It was fabulous to see so many parents taking the opportunity to see what our school has to offer their children. The children were also excited as they toured the school and visited classrooms. The day began with a fabulous performance from kindergarten students singing Catch a Falling Star under the direction of Miss Ryan. Senior students, Chloe Brazel and Nathaniel Yeatman spoke eloquently about the programs and facilities offered at our school. I thank Chloe and Nathaniel for their wonderful presentation. Following a tour of the school facilities, parents, children and teachers enjoyed morning tea. I would like to thank our P&C President Mrs Teresa Boughton for speaking on behalf of the parent body and also to Mrs Heidi Brooks and Mrs Trish Humphries for displaying, assisting and selling uniforms. This is a wonderful service that is provided for the convenience of MPS families. The next phase of our Head Start into Kinder program will be visits by each of the preschools over the next two weeks. Please see the dates and times in the school calendar for details. Student Leader 2016 nominees are to be congratulated for their recent presentations at the primary assemblies. The boys spoke at a previous assembly and a large number of girls addressed the primary assembly the following week. Whilst I was unable to be in attendance, I was informed both the girls and boys were very composed as they spoke about their experiences at MPS along with details of their personal attributes that make for a good leader. Many fabulous ideas were outlined, giving the students something to ponder before voting. There is little doubt that both the girls and boy student leader nominees would all make very good leaders for our school. I am extremely confident they will all show outstanding leadership qualities by being excellent role models for other students and representing our school at many events during the year. The voting is underway and the tallying will be done to determine the 2016 team. We look forward to the announcement of 2016 captains, vice captains and prefects at the presentation evening (3 rd December). Tuesday, 10 th November 2015

Lest We Forget, Remembrance Day will be observed at 11:00 am on Wednesday when students and staff will pause for one minute silence to remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts. At the morning assemblies our student leaders will speak about the significance of Remembrance Day highlighting that the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month was the moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front in World War I. This moment became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. Bubbles, kicking, floating, swimming are all skills being taught to Year 2 students who are accessing the learn to swim scheme. The two week Year 2 learn to swim program began yesterday. Mr Cooper informs me that the weather was beautiful, if not a little warm. I know all of the swim instructors were very busy supporting each child. Being able to swim is a massively important skill for our children to develop, and to do well. While many children will make good progress with their swimming as a result of participation in the program we strongly encourage all parents to continue lessons. Children will learn to swim more confidently if they practice and train regularly. Busy End of Term! There are many events happening this term including Presentation Ceremony, the School Performing Arts Groups Concert, K-2 disco and the Year 6 Farewell. There is a calendar at the end of each newsletter. I encourage all parents to look at it and plan ahead so that you don’t miss out. Acknowledgement of the hard working students at the annual Presentation Ceremony will be held on 3 December 2015 at the Moree Town Hall. I hope to see many people join us to celebrate a wide range of student effort and achievement. Application for Year 7 selective high school placement in 2017 (Year 5 children in 2015) is now open. Parents are advised that application must be made online at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement. Applications close on Monday 16 November 2015. Please note that late applications will not be accepted. An information booklet is available from the school office. ARE YOU SUNSAFE?

Visual  Arts  Workshops  Earlier   this   year   two   groups   of   students   spent   2  hours  each  Thursday  afternoon  experiencing  new  and   interesting   visual   art   techniques.     They  were  then  given  the  opportunity  to  create  works  of  art  to   go   into   a   school   based   competition   to   be  framed   and   hung   in   the   school   office   for   a   year.    Other  works  were  chosen  to  be  made  into  mouse  mats   that   can   be   enjoyed   by   all   students   in   the  computer  lab.      A  special  thank  you  to  the  teachers  involved  in  this  exciting  program  for  giving  up  their  precious  time  and   sharing   their   expertise   with   the   students   of  MPS:      •    Miss  Larken  •    Miss  Rigby  •    Miss  McPherson  •    Miss  Everingham    Congratulations   to  Hope  Vandriest,   Eliza   Jackson,  Madison   Suttie   and  Holly   Van  Vegchel   for   having  their   artworks   selected   for   framing   and   to   Emily  DiDonna,  Kareena  Hogan,  Rochelle  Roberts,  Aliyah  Quisaot   &   Laqueisha   Ring   for   having   their  artworks  selected  for  mouse  mats.

University  of  New  England  Visit    A   couple   of   weeks   ago   24   year   6   students  ventured   east   to   visit   the   University   of   New  England.     The   excursion   was   funded   by   the  University  and  was  an  introduction  to  the  sorts  of  subjects   and   eventually   career   paths   that   are  available  to  students  seeking  a  tertiary  education.    Whilst   at   the   UNE   our   students   took   part   in   a  number  of  interesting  activities  including:      •     Sports   Science   experiments   testing   what   is  more  important  muscles  or  leg  length  when  seeing  who  could  jump  the  highest.  •     Boot   Camp  which   had   students   taking   part   in  fitness   activities   in   one   of   the   University’s  gymnasiums  that  certainly  wore  them  out.  •     Nursing   Simulation   in   a   room   that   looked  exactly   like   a   hospital   ward   (Mr   McDonald   said  that   they   even   got   the   smell   correct)   where  students   listened   to   heart   beats   with  stethoscopes,   took   temperatures   and   learnt   how  to  carefully  wash  their  hands.  •     Criminology   Department   where   we   watched  CCTV   footage   of   a   crime   and   students’   visual  memories   were   tested   as   to   what   they   had  observed  (they  also  came  away  with  a  ‘mug  shot’  memento!)  •    Oorala  Aboriginal  Student  Support  rooms  visit  •      Zoology  Museum  where  students   investigated  a   huge   display   of   fascinating   animals,   skeletons,  insect  and  some  very  scary  looking  reptiles    (not  to  mention  the  draw  full  of  mice!).

We   would   like   to   thank   the   University   for   this  initiative   and   for   the   funds   that   gave   our   year   6  students  this  opportunity.
