Section Encourages Red Shirt Friday as Part of our Military Appreciation Awareness Campaign

Our members have seen and heard a lot about our newest program – PGA HOPE (Helping our Patriots Everywhere). With more than a dozen professionals instructing and almost 30 veterans (mostly suffering from PTSD) learning and playing, the weekly initiatives at West Point have been motivational, inspirational and an incredible success for everyone. We also know that some of our professionals have other great programs including Ray Ford and the

Rolling Hills Pro-Am on Aug. 17th. Last year’s event raised almost $140,000.00 for the Folds of Honor. Westchester Country Club, Quaker Ridge, Saint Andrew’s, Metropolis, Cherry Valley, Hudson National and others have also been amazing and annually are among the leaders in Patriot Golf Day contributions. We would like to now encourage all of our professionals and their club members to join us starting with this year’s 4th of July weekend to promote Red Shirt Friday. This began with some of our professionals but Paul Glut and his Woodside Acres membership have embraced this with all of their golfers (guests included) being encouraged to show their support of the military service of others by wearing Red on Fridays. As Paul wrote to promote this theme - “I talk about the families that have sacrificed so much, families that still have loved ones overseas, standing in harms way for our freedoms…. let us show them that we thank them and have not forgotten about their loved ones, they are still over there. We wear Red to show the Military Families here and troops that have come home that we thank them for their service and sacrifice, it’s not forgotten.” It starts with a simple email to the members each week asking them to support the effort and wear Red on Friday at the club. Feel free to contact Paul or the Met PGA Office for anything we can do to help you promote this theme to staff and members. Let’s start with the 4 th of July weekend and see if we can build momentum throughout the summer and up through the Patriot Golf Day weekend over Labor Day. It would be great to have all clubs participate. If you need a little more motivation we will close with this quote that Paul sent us:

What is a Veteran? A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of

"up to and including THEIR LIFE." Author: ~Unknown Author

EY Met PGA Pro-Junior at Lake Isle on July 22nd If you have never played in the Pro-Junior at Lake Isle sponsored by Ernst & Young and this year presented by our newest partner, The Hermitage Club, it is an event to remember. No

tournament on our schedule enjoys the “home cooking” that Dave Stevenson and his members provide for this day for our professionals and three of their junior golfers. In addition to the camaraderie, competition and fun on the golf course there will be plenty of pit stops for food and snacks and the tournament is buoyed by the wonderful Lake Isle membership that volunteers and makes it a very special day for all of the players.

Added Purse for Women’s Stroke Play Sponsored by Michael Hebron and KPMG With continued sponsorship from Michael Hebron and a new sponsor, KPMG plus the continuation of our PGA member bonus pool provided by the PGA Tour, the Met PGA Women’s Stroke Play will be played on Monday August 31st at Metropolis Country Club. This event is 36 holes played on one day and is one of the primary factors in the Women’s Player of the Year race. Entry fees include cart and lunch. PGA members are asked to encourage your PGA, LPGA, and non-affiliated assistants and teachers to go to met.pga.com or call the office to register. A special thanks to the women professionals who supported the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship by volunteering and making the additional sponsorship of our Women’s Stroke and Match Play events possible.

Mount Kisco Country Club Next on the Lincoln Race for the Lease Pro-Am Schedule Registration is open for the Lincoln Pro-Am at Mount Kisco CC on July 23rd. This will be an afternoon shotgun so the field will be limited. North Fork, Tam O’Shanter, and Colonial Springs currently hold the top 3 positions in the Race for the Lease.

Met PGA Assistants Championship to Boost 2015 Met PGA Junior Golf Fundraisers After the deadline for entries for our 2015 National Car Rental Met PGA Assistants Championship and the PGA National Assistants Championship we will be sending out information on the raffle tickets and another promotion of our Junior Golf fund-raisers. Thanks to a number of our supporting clubs and the active Assistants Junior Golf Committee, we have already gotten off to a great start to try and reach our goal of raising $100,000.00 for Junior Golf this year.

This year we have also established an initiative called The Birdie Challenge where members can pledge money for every birdie recorded on our Junior Tour. This is a very easy way to get your juniors and your club members in-volved at a very reasonable commitment level. Check this out by clicking here. Our thanks to everyone who gets behind our Junior Golf programs and others who are planning on staging an event to help us try to again top our $100,000.00 goal for 2015.

Head Pro Support Exceeds $8,500.00 for Assistants Contribution Fund A special thanks to all the head professionals who contributed to this year’s Assistants Contribution Fund, most of whom submitted payment with their tournament dues. This year we once again raised in excess of $8,500.00. The support of the head professionals not only helps our Assistants Tour to provide a payout of 40% of the field as opposed to 33% in each of their events, but this year we are also using a small percentage of the contributions to support the William A. Mitchell Scholarship Fund for apprentices. This commitment and assistance to the ap-prentices and professionals working on the development of their competitive games has traditionally been a sig-nificant addition to the Tour.

Condolences Our sympathies to Rolling Hills’ Dan Tzivanis, on the passing of his father, Dino on June 5th at the age of 84. Dino was a former Professional of the Year in the CNYPGA Section and served IBM CC in Upstate New York for many years as their head professional. Dino also had a short stint at En-Joie and then taught at the Endicott Driving Range before becoming a Life Member of the PGA. We extend our condolences to Dan’s mother, brothers and the entire Tzivanis family……..We are also deeply saddened to report the sudden passing of Mark Gaston at the age of 64. Mark was the husband of Jeannie Wands Gaston, shop manager at Old Oaks for Bobby Heins. Jeannie also worked for the Met PGA back in the 70’s in addition to running the shops for Joe Moresco and Ron Letellier. Her brother, Mike Wands was the long-tenured professional at Middle Island. Jeannie also helps out a number of the allied golf associations including the Westchester Golf Association Caddie Scholarship Fund. Many of our professionals also knew Mark for his involvement in the Pro-Junior at Lake Isle where he both worked and volun-teered. Our deepest sympathies to Jeannie, daughters Kerri and Lauren and to Mark’s parents and family as well.
