Sie besaen die groe Chancedoch sie habens nicht erkanntund fr eine Handvoll D-Markda verkauften sie ihr Land.

Es ist aus - und es fhrt kein Wegzurckein neues Spiel und man hofft auf neuesGlck.Es ist aus - sie sind im gelobten Land,aber nun bringt es sie um den Verstand.

Wohnungsnot und Arbeitslose gibt esnun,man glaubt es kaum.Nichts ist wie im Werbefernsehen, allesnur ein schner Traum.Weg sind SED und Stasi, doch dieStimmung bleibt gedmpftjetzt gibts Korruption und Geldgier undman hat umsonst gekmpft.

Authorities and repression, being oppressed for a longtime,suddenly the Fall of the Iron curtain, people got lostcompletelyeveryone tried to change things, wanted to be free at lastbut they only traded old constraints for new duties

They had the big chancebut they didn't realise itfor a bit of Deutsch-Markthey sold their very country

It's over and there's no way backa new game and you hope for new luckit's over they are in the Promised Landbut now it makes them mad

There are housing shortages and unemployment, you

wouldn't believe itnothing's like in the TV commercials, it's all only a sweetdreamSED and secret police are gone, but still theres no reasonto be happythere is corruption and greed and one senses that thefighting was in vain.

There was a very famous (West-German) song in the charts in the eighties about a young manwho wanted to travel from West-Berlin to East-Berlin, saying Excuse me, please, is this theSPECIAL TRAIN to Pankow, I need to go there right now, Pankow being a neighbourhood inEast-Berlin. (the song is sung by Udo Lindenberg)

The second thing one associates with TRAINS is the fact that Jews were taken to concentrationcamps in trains during the time of the NAZIS.

Thus, after 1989, the so much desired train to travel over the border turned out to be a trip into anenormous disillusion for many.

(sang noch zu Zeiten der DDR ein Lied, das auch den DDR-Staats-Chef Honecker erwhnte, indem der Wunsch ausgedrckt wurde, einfach mal mit dem Sonderzug nach Ost-Berlin zureisen)
