(f.l.t.r.) BioSmartTrainee “Training in Bio-Inspired Design of Smart Adhesive Materials” started at 01 October 2015 until 30 September 2019 with 7 academic and 3 industrial partners from 5 different EU-countries. It is funded by the Marie Sk³odowska-Curie Actions Programm Horizon 2020 with 2.82 Mio EUR. The project will provide a training to 11 young researchers by joining different PhD projects. The interdisciplinary research field of BioSmartTrainee is about controlling adhesion under wet conditions – a process that is already mastered by a lot of biological systems, like the binding of the frog‘s skin on different wet surfaces, but still remains challenging in adhesive technology. The provided training will combine three complementary scientific fields: POLYMER SCIENCE, ADHESION and (FLUID)-Biomechanics. In different PhD projects the network team aims to extract principles from biological systems and mimic them to design synthetic materials; to experimentally test their adhesion properties in wet conditions and to clarify the adhesion mechanisms based on natural examples and theoretical modelling. The designed materials will be useful for reversible attachment to a variety of surfaces in wet environments and, therefore, be highly relevant for products from European industry such as technological adhesives, coatings, tissue adhesives, wound dressings or transdermal delivery devices. From 15th to 16th October 2015 the Kick-off meeting took place at the IPF Dresden. The network partners presented their institution, the work packages and ESR projects were discussed in detail and project committees were established. page No. 1 BioSmartTrainee-Flyer is available The new flyer informs about the main objectives of the project and gives facts about partners and research fields of BioSmartTrainee. BioSmartTrainee – “Training in Bio-Inspired Design of Smart Adhesive Materials”

started at 01 October 2015 until 30 September 2019 with 7 academic and 3 industrial

partners from 5 different EU-countries. It is funded by the Marie Sk³odowska-Curie

Actions Programm Horizon 2020 with 2.82 Mio EUR. The project will provide a training

to 11 young researchers by joining different PhD projects.

The interdisciplinary research field of BioSmartTrainee is about controlling adhesion

under wet conditions – a process that is already mastered by a lot of biological systems,

like the binding of the frog‘s skin on different wet surfaces, but still remains challenging

in adhesive technology.

The provided training will combine three complementary scientific fields:

POLYMER SCIENCE, ADHESION and (FLUID)-Biomechanics.

In different PhD projects the network team aims to extract principles from biological

systems and mimic them to design synthetic materials; to experimentally test their

adhesion properties in wet conditions and to clarify the adhesion mechanisms based on

natural examples and theoretical modelling.

The designed materials will be useful for reversible attachment to a variety of surfaces

in wet environments and, therefore, be highly relevant for products from European

industry such as technological adhesives, coatings, tissue adhesives, wound dressings or

transdermal delivery devices.

From 15th to 16th October 2015 the Kick-off meeting took place at the IPF Dresden. The

network partners presented their institution, the work packages and ESR projects were

discussed in detail and project committees were established.
