From the Desk of the Chairman...

Dear Professional Colleagues,

A very HAPPY CA DAY to all of you!

It is a matter of great pride for all of us to be a part of

this glorious profession.

On July 1st, 1949, an act of parliament gave birth to

the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Founded a year before the constitution of India was

formalised; the ICAI counts itself among the oldest

professional institutions of the country. I take pride in

mentioning that it is the second largest professional

accounting and finance body in the world in terms of

members, with a current roaster of about 3,00,000

members.

ICAI lays down very strict code of ethics for the

Members as well as the Students. As we are entering

into the Platinum Jubilee year, of its glorious existence,

I will like to remind everyone of the official motto of

ICAI which is a quote from the Upanishad which reads

“Ya esha supteshu jagriti”. It translates as “the one

who is awake in those that sleep”. Last year at the

same time, we had a mammoth task in front of us

which was the implementation of GST. We the

Chartered Accountants spent many sleepless nights

and made exceptional efforts to ensure its proper

implementation truly living by the motto of our

profession.

This month has been a dynamic one.

Chartered Accountancy: A profession that teaches us that, “There is no magic to achievement. It's really about hard work, choices and persistence.”

CA Day Celebrations

Nationwide CA Day has been celebrated with a lot of

zeal and vigour. The Flag hoisting ceremony and

programmes for welfare of members like blood

donation camps, Health Check-ups, Tree Plantation

drives and Marathons were held at various Branches.

At the NIRC level a wonderful cultural evening “CA.

Parivaar Prastuti- 2018 “ was organised by and for the

CA Members and their families on 30th June, 2018. It

was an honour for us to have Mrs. Veena Virmani;

Chairperson, Standing Committee North Delhi

Municipal Corporation as the Guest of Honour.

MEMBER PROGRAMS

In its continuous endeavour to provide our esteemed

members with the best knowledge updates, various

seminars have been held in NIRC in the past one

month.

• A Two day National Conclave on GST was hosted by

NIRC on 1st & 2nd June, 2018. It was organised by

Committee on Public Finance & Government

Accounting & the Committee for Capacity Building of

Members in practice of ICAI. Sh.Upender Gupta,

Commissioner (GST) CBIC, Sh. Ravneet Singh

Khurana, Joint Commissioner (GST) CBIC, Sh. Rakesh

Aggarwal, CA. Atul Kumar Gupta CCM, CA. H.L. Madan,

Ms. Kajal Singh, EVP (Services) GSTN; Sh. Parkash

Kumar, CEO, GSTN; CA. Rohini Agarwal; Mr. Pankaj

Arora, Senior Manager (Services) GSTN; CA. J. K.

Mittal were the key speakers of the conference. The

event was a grand success.

• A Conclave on Fraud Investigation, Reporting and

Prevention, Forensic Accounting was held on 9thJune,

2018 wherein CA. Aakriti Kundra, Mr. Alok Gupta and

Mr. Rahul Magan were the key speakers.

• A Seminar on Year End Finalization and GST Audit

was jointly held with several CPE Study circles on 15th

June, 2018 wherein was deliberated by CA. P.K Mittal,

CA Madhurkar N. Hiregange, CCM, CA Gaurav Gupta

and CA. Puneet Oberoi were key Speakers.

• A Seminar on Income Tax was held on 16th June,

2018 with CA. Vimal Punmiya, CA K.K. Chythanya and

CA (Dr.) Rakesh Gupta as the key speakers.

• To promote a healthy lifestyle on the International

Yoga Day on 21st June, 2018 programmes on Yoga

were held at NIRC and its various branches.

CSR Activities and Developmental work

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that

someone else will save it. The environment and the

economy are really both two sides of the same coin. If

we cannot sustain the environment we cannot sustain

ourselves.

• In the last month I had informed you all regarding

the task of installation of Vertical gardens at different

venues which was assigned by the Deputy

Commissioner, City-SP Zone North Muncipal

Corporation Delhi. I am happy to inform that the first

Vertical garden at Utkarsh Municipal School, Near

Turkmaan Gate is about to be completed. I will be

sharing the pictures in next Edition.

• I happily inform that G-19, CA Bar Room, C.R.

Building has been renovated and has become

operational now.

• The Vishwas Nagar Auditorium has been renovated

and is ready for use now.

CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS BENEVOLENT FUND

I am thankful to CA. Dheeraj Chatley Son of Late

CA. Jagdish Mittar Chatley for his contribution of Rs

50000/- to Chartered Accountants Benevolent Fund in

Memory of his father who expired on 28.05.2018.

I further appeal my fellow members to contribute

generously towards the cause and become a life

member of The Chartered Accountants Benevolent

Fund (CABF) to help the necessitous members and

their families in distress.

Friends in the end I would just like to say that,

“The price of success is hard work, dedication to

the job at hand and the determination that

whether we win or we loose, we have applied the

best of ourselves to the task at hand.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the

courage to continue that counts”.

Gratitude on the sad demise of CA.JAGDISH MITTAR CHATLEY

(M.NO.009533) ON 28.5.2018. He died at the age of 73 years at ludhiana.

May the departed soul rest in peace.

Option for Polling Booth - Elections to the Twenty-Fourth Council and Twenty-Third Regional Councils

ANNOUNCEMENT

The next elections to the Council and the Regional Councils of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India are scheduled to be held on 7th and 8th December, 2018 in cities having more than 2500 members (i.e. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi/New Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Surat and Thane) and on 8th December, 2018 at all other places in terms of the provisions of Rule 21 of the Chartered Accountants (Election to the Council) Rules, 2006 specified by the Central Government. According to the provisions of clause (3) of Schedule 2 to Rule 6 of the aforesaid Rules, a notice is required to be published giving the voters in cities, having more than one polling booth located at different addresses, an opportunity to exercise their option to vote at a particular polling booth within that city.

Accordingly, an Announcement for Option for a particular polling booth in cities/towns i.e., Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi/New Delhi and Chennai having more than one polling booth located at different addresses has been hosted on the website of the Institute.
