Getting started

We were amazed and impressed by the ideas and activities people came up with in 2013 to put nystagmus in the limelight. Many of you also raised funds – although that’s an optional extra. The main aim is to shout about NYSTAGMUS!

Here’s an easy thing to do on the day. Wear a badge or wristband or blow up a balloon (in this pack or available from the NN shop http://www.nystagmusnet.org/cms/index.php/nn-shop) and see how many people ask you

“What’s that about then?”

Badges, balloons and bands

Some people opt for physical challenges such as sponsored runs, cycling or even a blindfold swim. Others choose less tiring but still very demanding challenges – including sponsored silences

Challenges

Food is a big favourite on Wobbly Wednesday with cake bakes and sales up and down the country – as well as coffee mornings.

Food & drink

That’s how Theo began a talk to his class about what it’s like to have nystagmus. He’s not the only student to tell others about his wobbly eyes. Whole schools join in too.

Staff in many eye hospitals join in too with information stands and leaflets. Our good friends in Leicester Royal Infirmary had a busy day and also organised a blind football match to promote nystagmus.

Hospitals

We can help you get into your local paper or on to local radio or TV. They’re always looking for human interest stories.

Media

“I have a visual impairment called Nystagmus. I’ve had it since I was born. It means I can’t see that far

away without something being blurry.”

Education

NN chair Richard Wilson and daughter Claire sang in a local hotel. The Mersey Belles put on a concert in aid of NN.

Music

Dress down days, information stands and cakes (again) are all popular ways of introducing colleagues to nystagmus. You may well find one or more colleagues have a wobbly connection too.
