In SAP Solution Manager 7.2, the Solution Documentation scenario has been rebuilt completely. To be

able to work with existing content in the new environment, this content needs to be transferred. This

process is called “content activation”.

How can I define the perfect scope for the content activation?

The cross-project/solutions report provides a comprehensive overview to evaluate existing projects.

The report shows a list of projects and solutions with additional information:

Is process documentation included?

Are links to other applications included (ChaRM – open task lists; ITPPM Project, QGM, BP Monitoring)?

Number of assigned roadmaps (for projects)

Number of structure elements

Number of assignments on the tabs

Important to Know & Your Next Steps

The upgrade from SAP Solution Manager 7.1 to

7.2 is standard

Relevant for all customers:

No CRM issues this time: SAP Solution Manager 7.2 does not

contain a new SAP CRM release. As we only move to a new

enhancement package, the impact of the 7.2 upgrade is

significantly lower than in the 7.1 upgrade

If you already adopted the Monitoring & Alerting infrastructure,

then you are fine. Note that business process monitoring

based on the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI)

is mandatory in 7.2.

The split of ABAP and JAVA stacks, and the upgrade to SAP

NetWeaver 7.40 are performed automatically in a standard

upgrade procedure

Activation of Solution Documentation can be prepared well in

advance of the upgrade

This is the current state of planning and may be changed by SAP at any time.

Goals

During this procedure, the content will be activated,

i.e. moved into the new solution documentation

environment. Additionally, content of related

applications will be activated as well.

required.

Execute transaction SOLMAN_SETUP. After going

through the mandatory configuration, launch the

content activation guided procedure from the menu.

After calling transaction SOLMAN_SETUP,

you can enter the guided procedure for

content activation by using the link

“Solution Documentation Content

Activation”.

The guided procedure will open in a new

browser window.


SAP recommends that customers prepare content activation

carefully

Content activation

is an integral part of the overall upgrade

is relevant for all customers who have already created solution documentation

can only be done once

During the content activation process, customers must select all content that they want to use in SAP

Solution Manager 7.2. All other content remains in display mode only.

No content is lost during the upgrade!

It is important that customers make the right selection because

selecting too much results in costly post activation clean up activities

selecting too little requires a costly re-documentation

SAP delivers tools and best practices to support the right selection for content activation.
