Summer always bringschanges. School is done

for the year; families goon vacation, and somemembers move on to betterthings.

Every year, SchweikerSquadron loses a few cadetsto college or the military.Every year, we send a new batch of cadets off to BasicEncampment and everyyear, they come back withwar stories about theirexperiences. Every year, thenumber of cadets that attend

meetings dwindles duringthe summer while the hard-core seniors take this time toorganize and prepare for thefall, when everything startsall over again.

This year, squadron mem- bers are being recognizedfor their achievements.Cadet Lt Col. David Maveris Civil Air Patrols Cadet of the Year. He will be travel-ing to Reno, Nev., to acceptthis award from the nationalcommander. I have beennamed Northeast RegionsSenior Member of the Year.

Last year, many of ourseniors attended the North-east Region Staff Collage. This year, Im proud to saythat some will return as staff at that prestigious school --one that has the reputationof being the best that CAP

    has to offer.These accomplishments

are all due to your effortsat maintaining a qualitycomposite squadron and forcreating a reputation of excellence. It reflects well onour squadron to be selectedfor these honors. It can truly be said that every echelonof Civil Air Patrol knowsof your hard work andachievements.

For those of you who goon to better things, the bestof wishes go with you. Forthose of you who stay withus, I thank you for yourefforts.

Lets get ready for anothergreat year serving our stateand nation, that others maylive.

For cadets, their parentsand some seniors, its a Civil

Air Patrol rite of passage andgood way to blow a week of vacation. Its a heck of alot of fun, too, which is whycadets who complete NJWGEncampment often come back to work as staff along-side seniors who do it yearafter year.

An encampment can be themost significant and worth-while training experience of a CAP cadets career. Train-ing is what encampment is

all about. New Jersey Wingencampments are uniquethat they are run by cadetsfor cadets.

Cadets must attend anencampment to becomeofficers and receive the BillyMitchell Award, which is themid-point in the progressionthrough the cadet program.

Right now, registration isopen for the 2006 encamp-ment, scheduled for July 23-30 at Fort Dix. Staff includescadet Zach Thibault andseniors Maj. Bob Eboch and2Lt. Mark Swanson. Maj.Eboch will oversee communi-cations at encampment while2Lt. Swanson will be workingwith cadets on public affairs.Thibault has been assigned tothe logistics area.

Already this spring, oursquadrons representativeshave spent a weekend at

McGuire AFB in training forthe encampment; they are

scheduled to spend a thirdday at McGuire for final plan-ning and training.

Cadets who attend sum-mer encampment can expectplenty of training orienta-tion flights, challenge courses, drill and ceremony and prob-ably some tours of the baseand aircraft. The encampmentschedule and offerings varyeach year.

Lists of what cadets needfor encampment are avail-

able, but the biggest item isthree BDU uniforms (youllget dirty) and one complete blue uniform. Be sure thayour uniform is correct beforeyou head to encampment.

The cost of summerencampment is $200. Toapply, a cadet must completethe Curry achievement by June 1. Cadets who havnever attended the encamp-ment before have priority toattend.

To apply, cadets must sendin a CAPF 31 (application forencampment) and CAPF 60(health/info form), along witha check or money order madeout to NJ Wing, CAP. Theapplication deadline is June30. Forms and checks should be sent to: HQ NJ Wing CAP/CP, ATTN: Encampment2006, PO Box 16099, McGuirAFB, NJ 08641-6099.
