    Local Members Participate in Andrews AFB EventLocal Members Participate in Andrews AFB EventOn Friday, May 14th , 7 MartinsburgCadets and 1 Sr. Member traveled to

    Andrews AFB, to support and partici-pate in the 2010 Joint Services Open

    House.

    During the event, our members per-formed duties that included: DrugDemand Reduction Education, Re-cruiting, CAP Aircraft Protection and

    Streamer/Flag Retrieval. They were

    also given plenty of free time to visitthe displays and enjoy the air show.

    At the end of the day, other than a

    little sunburn and tired feet, everyonesaid that they had enjoyed themselvesand looked forward to next year.

    On Tuesday, March 2nd, a special meet-ng was held, at the squadron hangar, to

    give squadron members families a

    chance to tour the new facility. Awards

    and promotions were given out at the

    meeting and refreshments were also

    provided.

    The cadets wereable to use the fatal

    vision goggles todemonstrate for the

    public the dangersof drinking and

    driving. The cadetsalso set up a re-cruitment board topresent to the pub-

    lic the mission andactivities of ourlocal Civil AirPatrol squadron.

    As of June 19th, the squadron has purchased: carpet, flooring, tables and chairs for the hangars ready room. Level Line Excavating (Eddie

    Bohrer) donated the use of a bobcat to remove the steep bank around the hangar. Grass has been planted on the slope and the steps are waitingon concrete. Phone and Internet service providers are still being researched. A dedication ceremony is tentatively set for September.

    posite Squadron par-ticipated in a recentMass Casualty Exer-cise, sponsored by the

    Martinsburg Veterans

    Administration Medi-cal Center.

    They joined membersof the local JuniorROTC and employees

    of the VAMC, assimulated victims of anexploded improvised

    explosive device.

    This drill took monthsto plan and involvedmany county, state andfederal emergency

    response organiza-tions.

    Six cadets and three senior members attended firearms and emergency services train-ing hosted by the 167th Airlift Wing. TSgt John Phillips led the firearms training

    while Maj Bart Rogers conducted the emergency services/ground team member train-ing.

    MADD speaker tocome and sharewith us a verytragic story but

    one of hope.

    Mrs. MargaretWalker shared the

    story of her son'stragic death by thehands of a drunkand drug abusing

    truck driver. Herstory was one of

    hope that bothteens and adults

    should hear andheed her warningthat drinking anddriving (and abus-

    ing any substance)is just stupid.Mrs. Walker ex-

    plained

    that this type ofsubstance abuse

    effects not onlythe drunk driverbut also those whobecome his or her

    victims.

    Mrs. Walker,along with her

    presenting partner,Sandy Palmer,reach out throughthe community in

    schools, busi-nesses and otheravenues wheretheir message can

    be heard.

    or the Cessna/Garmin G1000 integrated cockpit system: Maj Jim Cramer,Capt Douglas Hanson, 2 Lt Jeannine Korte, 2Lt Jon McNay, Maj Robert Nas-

    er, Capt Jim Newton, Capt David Porter and Capt Adam Sanders.

    C/Col David Hill will be traveling to Germany with IACE,July 17 - Aug 4. He is also on the staff of this years Cadet

    Officer School, July 5 - 15, at Maxwell AFB, AL.

    C/CMSgt Tim Dye will be attending Honor Guard Academy, July 11 -

    25, in Westminster, MD.

    C/SSgt Samantha Pate has completed the JROTC Aerospace & Tech-
