Willkommen

Willkommen zum 4. Nachwuchswissenschaftlerforum am Julius Kühn-Institut in Quedlinburg. Mit Rückblick auf unser letztes erfolgreiches Forum freuen wir uns besonders auch in diesem Jahr wieder viele spannende Vorträge aus allen Fachrichtungen des JKI erleben zu dürfen. Da die Anzahl an Teilnehmern unsere Erwartungen übertroff en hat, gibt es dieses Jahr erstmalig Postersessions. Somit bekommen alle jungen Wissenschaftler die Gelegenheit, ihre wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten zu präsentieren. Auch reihen sich seminaristische Vorträge ein, welche den Wissenstand der Teilnehmer auf dem Gebiet der Biostatistik und Literaturverwaltungs-Software erweitern und damit die weitere erfolgreiche Forschungsarbeit befördern.Natürlich darf auf einer Tagung das gesellige Rahmenprogramm nicht zu kurz kommen. Dieses wird in diesem Jahr kulturell durch den Auftritt der Kabarett-Gruppe unseres Kooperationspartners, das GutsMuths-Gymnasium in Qued-linburg, bereichert. Da im letzten Jahr der Wunsch geäußert wurde, Quedlinburg zur Adventszeit zu erleben, wird der Besuch des Weihnachtsmarktes ebenfalls fester Bestandteil des Programms sein. Am zweiten Abend werden wir bei einem gemeinsamen Restaurant-Besuch viele Gelegenheiten haben, über wissenschaftliche Themen zu diskutieren und uns gegenseitig besser kennenzulernen.

Welcome to the 4th Young Scientists Meeting at the Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI), Quedlinburg. Based on the success of last year’s program, you will again be fortunate to attend exciting presentations from almost all institutes of the JKI. Since the number of participants exceeds our expectations, we off er poster sessions for the fi rst time. Thus, all young researchers willing to present their work will get the opportunity to do so. Two keynote presentations will introduce you to biostatistics and literature management, both benefi cial skills for your scientifi c work. Finally, most important during all conferences, the Young Scientists Meeting will be rounded off by a social get-together. At this, you will be delighted with cabaret performed by school students of our cooperation partner, the GutsMuths-Gymnasium, Quedlinburg. Furthermore, you can enjoy the fantastic Christmas fl air in the historic city of Quedlinburg by visiting the Christmas fair. The second day will continue with a dinner in a restaurant, providing us with plenty of opportunity to discuss scientifi c issues and get to know one another better.

Die Kosten für die Unterkunft im Hotel sowie die Pausenversorgung des NWF durch die Firma Mahlzeit werden dankenswerter Weise von der Gemeinschaft der Förderer und Freunde des JKI (GFF) übernommen. Die Mittagessen, das abendliche Buff et im Restaurant sowie anfallende Reisekosten können leider nicht von der GFF erstattet werden. Hierzu sind die Reisekostenabrechnungen des JKI zu nutzen.

Während der Zeit des NWF steht den Teilnehmern ein Klein-Bus inkl. Fahrer mit Platz für maximal 8 Personen zur Verfügung. Dieser wird als Shuttle zwischen dem JKI und der Altstadt Quedlinburg/Hotel am 29.11./30.11. abends sowie am 30.11./01.12. morgens eingesetzt werden. Auf Grund der begrenzten Kapazität sollten die Teilnehmer die vorhandenen Dienst-PKW nutzen.

Wenn die einzelnen Teilnehmer zustimmen, werden die englischsprachigen Poster und Vortragsfolien zusammen mit dem Abstract veröff entlicht. Dafür wird ein Service der renommierten Wissenschaftszeitschrift NATURE genutzt, der eine Plattform für Poster und Präsentationen bietet, so dass der Autor einen Erstanspruch auf ein Thema deutlich machen kann. (URL Nature Precedings: http://precedings.nature.com). Alle Beiträge erhalten einen Digital Object Identifi er (DOI) und sind somit zitierbare, vollwertige Veröff entlichungen.

Nach dem NWF können die Teilnehmer einen extended Abstract über ihr Vortragsthema verfassen. Die Autorenhinweise befi nden sich auf Seite 10. Die extended Abstracts werden im Julius-Kühn-Archiv veröff entlicht, dass dann als Konferenzband ein Aushängeschild des NWF darstell. Die extended Abstracts werden ebenfalls zitierbare, vollwertige Veröff entlichungen sein.

Accommodation costs as well as expenses for services during intermissions are incurred by our sponsor (GFF). However, lunch, dinner and travel costs are not included and have to be invoiced separately by submission of a receipted expenses form.

During the meeting, a minibus is available that will shuttle between the JKI and the historic centre of Quedlinburg as well as the hotel. Since only 8 seats can be used, participants are requested to use JKI-cars.

After participant’s agreement, fi les of posters and presentations in combination with abstracts will be published on the web by utilizing a platform of NATURE (URL of Nature Precedings: http://precedings.nature.com). By means of assigned Digital Object Identifi ers (DOI) all submissions on Nature Precedings are citable and are full-valued publications.

After the Young Scientists Meeting, participants are called to submit extended abstracts. Author guidelines can be found on page 11 All extended abstracts will be published in the non-periodical journal Julius-Kühn-Archiv. This conference proceeding represents the Young Scientists Meeting as a fl agship. The extended abstracts are full-valued publications, too.

Autorenhinweise für das Julius Kühn-Archiv (Ex-tended Abstracts)

Das Julius-Kühn-Archiv ist eine unregelmäßig erscheinen-de Zeitschrift und enthält neben Tagungs- und Kon-gressbeiträgen auch Monografi en. Es setzt die seit 1906 erschienenen Mitteilungshefte fort. Alle Ausgaben sind OPEN ACCESS und damit kostenfrei im Internet auf der Plattform des Open Journal Systems des JKI (http://pub.jki.bund.de) zu lesen.Die Einreichung von Artikeln erfolgt dort eben-falls. Nach der Registrierung als Autor ist die Beitragseinreichung unter der Rubrik „4. NWF 2011“ möglich. Die Schritte sind im Einreichungsfenster erklärt.Extended Abstracts sollten zwischen 1000 und 3000 Wör-ter enthalten und folgendermaßen aufgebaut sein.

Der Text kann in Word2003 oder Word2007 verfasst wer-den, wobei eine Standardformatierung wie Times New Roman, Schriftgröße 10 oder 11 gewählt werden soll. Lateinische Begriff e sind kursiv zu schreiben. Der Text darf keine Feldfunktionen, Einschübe, Absatzformatierungen oder Seitenzahlen beinhalten. Endformatierungen nach den Layout-Vorgaben des Julius-Kühn-Archivs werden von der Redaktion vorgenommen.

Tabellen und Abbildungen

Tabellen und Abbildungen werden im laufenden Text zitiert, dort aber nicht eingefügt. Sie werden auf den letz-ten Seiten des Dokumentes platziert (Aufl ösung der Ab-bildungen / Grafi ken: mindestens 300 dpi). Die getrennte Einreichung von besonders hochaufl ösenden Bildern oder Grafi ken ist als Zusatzdatei möglich. Alle Abbildun-

gen und Tabellen können nur in schwarz/weiß und im Hochformat gedruckt werden. Tabellentitel werden über die Tabelle, Abbildungstitel unter die Abbildung gesetzt.

In-Text-Zitate

Zitate werden im Text in einer Klammer mit Autor(en) und Jahr gekennzeichnet, wobei bei mehreren Referen-zen die Älteste zu Beginn steht. Mehr als zwei Autoren werden mit et al. abgekürzt. Im Literaturverzeichnis stehen die Referenzen nach den Autorennamen alphabetisch sortiert, wobei die Reihen-folge von Initialen und Nach-namen zu beachten ist (siehe Beispiel unten). Die allgemeine Reihenfolge der Zitation ist:

Julius Kühn-Archiv – Instructions for Authors (ex-tended abstracts)

The Julius-Kühn-Archiv is a non-periodical journal publi-shing conference proceedings and monographs. In form and content, it continues the “Mitteilungen” series, publis-hed since 1906. All issues are OPEN ACCESS and therefore available free of charge at the Open Journal System of JKI (http://pub.jki.bund.de).Submission of articles is also implemented on that plat-form if registrants enroll as authors. For article submission please follow the instructions at the beginning of the submission process under the rubric “4. NWF 2011”. Extended abstracts should contain 1000 to 3000 words and have the following structure:

• Title • Author names (write out fi rst names!)• Institution(s), addresses• E-mail, telephone number of the fi rst author• Abstract (150-200 words)• 4-6 keywords • Introduction• Material and methods• Discussion• Acknowledgement • References

Text

The text can be prepared in Word2003 or Word2007 with a normal, plain font (e.g., 11-point Times New Roman). Use italics for Latin terms. The text must not contain fi eld functions, indents, text/paragraph formatting or page numbers. Final formatting according to the layout requi-rements of the Julius-Kühn-Archiv is carried out by the editorial staff .

Tables and fi gures

Please refer to numbered tables and fi gures within the text, but do place them subsequent to the references, not within the text. The resolution of all illustrations has to be at least 300 dpi. A separate submission of particu-lar high-resolution pictures or graphs is possible in the supplementary fi le submission step. All tables and fi gures are printed in black and white and cannot be presented in horizontal format. For each table or fi gure, please supply a caption, which is placed above a table or below a fi gure.

In-text citations

Citations contain author and year and are placed in bra-ckets. Multiple references are sorted by year in ascending order. More than two authors are abbreviated to et al. within a reference. Use small caps for author names.Example:(ALVAREZ and SRINIVASAN, 2005; BRADSHAW and RAMSAY, 2009; HU et al., 2009)

Literature

In the list of literature, references are alphabetically sorted by the author names. Please check the order of initials using the examples given below. Here again, use small caps for author names. The common arrangement of references is:

Journal articles:AUTHOR(S), Year: Title. Journal title abbreviated according to the ISI Journal Abbreviations Index. Volume (Issue), Pages.

Monographs:AUTHOR(S), Year: Title. Edition, if more than one was pub-lished, City, Publisher.

Or…

AUTHOR(S) OF THE CHAPTER, Year: Title of the chapter. In: Title of the book. EDITOR(S), Edition, if more than one was published, City, Publisher, Pages of the chapter.
