Wenn dich während des Festivals der Hunger packt, empfehlen wir das böhmische Pop-up-Restaurant Babička, das extra für Waves Vien-na von 3. bis 5. Oktober den Herd anwirft. Für drei Tage ist Babička (Tschechisch für Großmutter) dort untergebracht, wo den ganzen Sommer über It’s All About The Meat Baby für kulinarische Freu-den gesorgt hat. Chefkoch Miro Bartoš wird Originalrezepte seiner babička mit einem modernen Twist zubereiten. Lecker!

If hunger strikes while you’re at the festival, we recommend the Bohemian pop-up restaurant Babička, which fi res up the stove between October 3rd and 5th es-pecially for Waves Vienna. During these three days, Babička (Czech for grandmother) is located at the spot where It’s All About Meat Baby had catered for culinary pleasures all summer long. Chef Miro Bartoš will prepare origi-nal recipes of his babička with a modern twist. Yummy!

Zum dritten Mal heißt es nun: „Ride The Waves!“ Erstmals wird das Fes-tival aber nicht nur die Stadtgrenze von Wien, sondern gleich die öster reichischen Landes grenzen überschreiten und am Samstag im Rahmen von Waves Bratislava mehr als 40 Artists in nicht weni-ger als sieben zusätzlichen Venues bieten. Festivalbesucher können die kurze Distanz zwischen den beiden Hauptstädten bequem und kostenlos mit dem Waves Shuttle-Bus überbrücken und so ein ein-zigartiges Festivalerlebnis in zwei Städten genießen. Auf ein Neues! Once again it’s time to “ride the waves”! For the fi rst time, the festival will extend beyond not only the municipal boundaries of Vienna but even the Austrian bor-der. On Saturday, more than 40 artists will be performing at seven additional venues in the course of Waves Bratislava. Festival visitors can comfortably travel the short distance between the two capitals on the free Waves shuttle bus and enjoy a unique festival experience in two cities. HigHligHts 03.10.

Für alle, die keine Einladung zur geheimen Kick-off-Party gestern Abend erhalten haben, geht die drit-te Auflage von Waves Vienna erst heute los – dafür gleich mit einem sehr runden und breiten Line-up, das sich aus einer Mischung aus rund 30 Bands und DJs zusammensetzt. Die Präsentationen heimischer Labels stehen dabei mit im Vordergrund: Bei der Ink Music Night (Fluc Wanne) wird das neue Album des Grazer Singer-Songwriter-Projekts Farewell Dear Ghost und jenes der Indie-Pop-Lieblinge Velo-jet vorgestellt, bevor es mit Nathan Fake und A. G. Trio elektronisch zur Sache geht. Einen Stock darü-ber (Fluc) zeigen bei der Problembär Night weitere österreichische Indie-Bands, was sie drauf haben: The End Band kommt mit Songs daher, die einen an Brit-Pop denken lassen, Filou mit verqueren deutsch-sprachigen Lyrics und Deadnote Danse mit synthie-lastigen Beats und großer Stimmgewalt. Noisiger Shoegaze-Rock zum einen, Girls-DIY-Pop zum ande-ren steht bei der Seayou Records Night (Flex Café) am Programm, Ersteres von Vortex Rex und Japan-ther, Zweiteres von Fijuka. Gleich nebenan (Flex) er-öffnen Amatorski mit sphärischen Klangkonstrukten, bevor die belgischen Indie-Popper von Girls In Ha-waii ihr Comeback feiern. Danach lädt der gut ge-launte Electro-Pop der Ladys von CSS zum Springen ein. Wer es am ersten Festivaltag lieber gemächlich und melancholisch angehen möchte, ist bei den klas-sisch angehauchten Oscar & The Wolf (FM4 River-boat @ Clubschiff) und der Allround-Vokalistin Frida Hyvönen im Rahmen der VSA Night (Odeon) gut auf-gehoben. Das Ende des Abends lässt sich entweder dort beim verträumten Indie-Pop von Au Revoir Si-mone feiern oder bei den funky Synthie-Sounds von Say Yes Dog (FM4 Riverboat @ Clubschiff).

For all those of you who didn’t get an invitation to the super secret kick-off party yesterday evening, the third edition of Waves Vienna only starts today – but it starts with a well-balanced and diverse line-up consisting of about 30 bands and DJs. The presenta-tion of local labels is one of our objectives: at the Ink Music Night (Fluc Wanne), the new albums of Fare-well Dear Ghost, a singer-songwriter from Graz, and of the indie pop darlings Velojet will be presented, before things get electronically intense with Nathan Fake and A. G. Trio. One floor above (Fluc), further Austrian indie bands will show you what they’ve got to offer at the Problembär Night: The End Band, with songs reminiscent of Brit pop, Filou, with awry Ger-man lyrics, and Deadnote Danse, with synth-heavy beats and powerful vocals. Noisy shoegaze rock, on the one hand, and girls DIY pop, on the other hand, are on the agenda at the Seayou Records Night (Flex Café); the former by Vortex Rex and Japanther, the latter by Fijuka. Right next door, Amatorski kick off with spheric sound constructions, before the Bel-gian indie pop folks of Girls In Hawaii celebrate their comeback. After that, the cheerful electro pop of the ladies of CSS will make you jump. If you’d rather keep it quiet and melancholic on the first day of the festival, you should check out the somewhat classi-cal Oscar & The Wolf (FM4 Riverboat @ Clubschiff) and the all-round vocalist Frida Hyvönen, who will play at the VSA Night (Odeon). You can celebrate the end of the first festival night either right there with the dreamy indie pop of Au Revoir Simone, or with the funky synth sounds of Say Yes Dog (FM4 Riverboat @ Clubschiff).

Unter dem Motto „East Meets West“ lädt Waves Vienna auch heuer wieder zwei Gastländer zu den alljährlichen Festlichkeiten. Dieses Mal sind Slo-wenien und Belgien an der Reihe – und sie haben einiges zu bieten. In Belgien etwa ist in den letzten Jahren eine facettenreiche und aufregende Musik-landschaft entstanden, die sich international mehr als sehen lassen kann.Die innovativen Soundbastler Amatorski (Do., 19:30, Flex) haben eine spannende Mischung aus Jazz, Chillwave und Pop im Gepäck, während das Dream-Pop-Duo Float Fall (Sa., 20:15, MS Schlögen) mit zar-tem Gesang und warmer Elektronik direkt ins Herz trifft. Mehr für das Gefühlszentrum gibt es von Oscar & The Wolf (Do., 23:45, FM4 Riverboat @ Clubschiff), die das Singer-Songwriter-Konzept aufs Bandformat ausgeweitet haben, sowie von Flying Horseman (Do., 22:30, FM4 Riverboat @ Clubschiff), die mit wunder-schönen gehauchten Melodien verzaubern. Wer Ge-fallen an Letzteren gefunden hat, sollte noch zu Dans Dans (Fr., 21:30, MS Schlögen) – der Lead-Sänger von Flying Horseman mischt auch hier mit.Nach so viel Gefühl darf aber auch das Tanzbein nicht vernachlässigt werden. Dieses trainiert man am besten beim experimentellen Indie-Rock von BRNS (Fr., 22:45, Fluc Wanne), beim stylishen Synth-Pop von Soldout (Sa., 21:30, Badeschiff) oder bei Compu-phonic (Sa., 03:00, Pratersauna – Bunker), der mit seinem feiergeprüften House-Sound dafür genau das richtige Programm bietet. Und zum Schluss noch eine Bekanntgabe: Girls In Hawaii (Do., 20:45, Flex) sind wieder zurück! Auch sie beehren Waves Vienna mit ihrem Indie-Pop – und einem neuen Album.

luxeMBurg in WienNachdem schon im letzten Jahr im Rahmen der Waves Music Conference ein Empfang des luxem-burgischen Musikexportbüros music:LX für Branchen-vertreter stattgefunden hat und auch verstärkt Bands und DJs aus den Benelux-Ländern ins Lineup von Waves Vienna eingebunden worden sind, gehen wir diesen Weg heuer emsig weiter: Mit Monophona und Say Yes Dog sind erneut zwei Acts aus Luxemburg am Festival vertreten. Monophona (Fr., 00:00, Flex Café) bieten eine gut ausgetüftelte Kombination von sphärischen Gitarren- und Keyboard-Klangteppichen mit elektronischen Downtempo-Beats und Samples, darüber schwebt eine stets unaufdringliche weibliche Stimme. Say Yes Dog (Do., 21:15, FM4 River boat @ Clubschiff) wiederum machen tanzbaren Synth-Pop, der einmal House-Rhythmen verarbeitet, dann wie-der progressive und krautrockige Sounds integriert. Reinhören lohnt sich!

After last year’s reception of the luxembourg music export office music:lX for business representatives at the Waves Music Conference and the deliberate integration of bands and DJs from Benelux coun-tries into the Waves Vienna line-up, we diligently pursue that path this year: with Monophona and Say Yes Dog, two acts from luxembourg will perform at the festival.
