XL. Panzerkorps (XL Panzer Corps) 99 This Corps was formed in Lubeck, Wehrkreis X, on January 26, 19^0, as Generalkommando XL. Armeekorps. It fought in the western campaign in May- June 19^0. After this campaign the Corps was transferred to Breslau, Wehrkreis VIII, and then to Vienna, Wehrkreis XVII. In February 19^1 it was transferred to Rumania and then to Bulgaria for the planned attack against Yugoslavia and Greece in April 19^1. After the Balkan campaign the Corps was transferred from Athens to Vienna, and then to Breslau. In August 19^1 the unit was transferred to the eastern front under Armeegruppe Mitte, where it took part in the encirclement of Velikiye Luki. The Corps was converted to the Generalkommando (mot.) XL. Armeekorps on August 25, 19^1, and to the Generalkommando XL. Panzerkorps on September 6, 19^1. In June 19^2 the Corps was transferred to the southern sector, where it participated in the battle of Kharkov, then advanced to the Don River, and later to the Terek River in the Caucasus Mountains. In January 19^3 it began to retreat north toward Rostov, then west to the Dnieper River. On November U, 19^3? the Corps was designated "Gruppe Henrici," on November 19 it was renamed "Gruppe Eberbach," on November 25, 19^3> it became known as "Gruppe Schbrner," and on February 26, 19^U, it was designated "Gruppe von Knobelsdorff ." Later it retreated across the Dniester River into Rumania. On May 31, 19^j it was again designated XL. Panzerkorps and was transferred to the Husi, Rumania, area. During July 26 and August 6, 19^*, the Corps was transferred to Armeegruppe Nord in the East Prussian- Lithuanian border area, and later it began to retreat toward the Memel area and' the Baltic Sea. This Corps was formed in Lubeck, Wehrkreis X, on January 26, 19̂ 0, as Generalkommando XL. Armeekorps.It fought in the western campaign in May- June 19̂ 0.
