    W!O IS "ESUS C!RIST#

Professor Simon Greenleaf was one of the most eminent lawyers of all time. His Laws of Evidence for many yearswere accepted by all States in the United States as the standard methodology for evalating cases. He was teachingLaw at a niversity in the United States when one of his stdents as!ed Professor Greenleaf if he wold apply his Lawsof Evidence to evalate an historical figre. "hen Greenleaf agreed to the pro#ect he as!ed the stdent who was to bethe sb#ect of the review. $he stdent replied that the person to be e%amined wold be &ess 'hrist. Professor

Greenleaf agreed to nderta!e the e%amination of &ess 'hrist and as a reslt( when he had finished the review( SimonGreenleaf personally accepted the Lord &ess 'hrist as his Savior.

Professor Greenleaf then sent an open letter to all #rists in the United States saying in part ) personally haveinvestigated one called &ess 'hrist. ) have fond the evidence concerning him to be historically accrate. ) have alsodiscovered that &ess 'hrist is more than a hman being( he is either God or nothing and having e%amined the evidenceit is impossible to conclde other than he is God. )n Hindism at least 2>>> years before Aarwin the yoga philosophies of )ndia had the concept of the niverse being arope which always e%isted and nravelled strand by strand dring creation and then rewond again. $hs the niverseis eternal and prodces everything accordingly. "e are therefore according to Hindism part of a plsating eternalniverse.

$his is similar to the big bang concept. "e shold nderstand that the big bang is part of an eternal e%panding andcontracting niverse. $he big bang is #st a transformation from a clster to an e%pansion mode in an nending

changing niverse. $his shold never be constred as a description of creation. $he scientist view of the niverse is #stas mch a religios statement as belief in 'reation. $hey have the concept that a cosmic blip created all things. $heirgod is an eternal niverse marching on throgh an evoltion of gala%ies.

Genesis 616 is ths a radical docment against the people of the ancient world and most of the scientists of today. +rprayers and religios ceremonies become in their eyes merely rital with no reality and prely ceremonial vestiges of thepast. $his is how the prayers that commence Parliament are seen by many who participate in them.

Every hman being li!es to !now their roots. )t gives them a sense of belonging and origin. Good e%amples of this arescientists and e%plorers who are constantly loo!ing for life on other planets or finding ot where we came from.

Political leaders are crrently spending a lot of money loo!ing for life in the niverse. /ossea came p with theconcept of the noble savage in an attempt to come p with the roots of society. Plato and others from the golden age of

Greece wrote abot government in boo!s sch as $he /epblic.

;any people do this to go bac! a nmber of generations to loo! for their roots. $his is often very frstrating for displacedpeople or illegitimate children. )n Genesis we are going bac! to the first man( ,dam( and prior to him( the creation of theniverse.

)n verse 6 we saw heavens and the earth. Having mentioned the heavens ;oses in sbseent verses immediatelydrops them and concentrates on the earth.

    $HE+L+G)',L I)E"P+)$S + GEES)S 616?0

$here are three ma#or views on the inter relationship of these three verses.

    $HE 'L,SS)',L $HE+/C

$his was a view held by Lther( 'alvin and in this centry Ar Henry ;orris who see verse 6 as a general title followed byverse 2 which showed the conditions that e%isted at that time followed by verse 0 and following otlining the wor! ofcreation in detail. )n this format the watery condition as portrayed in verse 2 is the original conditions which are thenimproved on.

Lther said( $he plain and simple meaning of what ;oses here says is that all things that e%ist were created by God andat the beginning of the first day God pt into it the light so that the light of the day was shining and a shapeless heavenand earth cold be seen.

$here are some problems with this view1 JaK o where else in the @ible do the words heaven and earth refer to ashapeless mass( it always refers to the finished organised earth. JbK )n addition the dar!ness and chaos in verse 2 hasan evil connotation in relation to the rest of the @ible. )n /evelation 26( 22 it is stated that there is no dar!ness in thepresence of God. 'f. 6 &ohn 619.

    $HE G,P $HE+/C

$his is the rin and restoration view. $his sees the fall of Satan occrring between verses 6 and 2. )t is also sed bysome to allow for geological ages between verses 6 and 0. )n this position a gap is placed between verses 6 and 0based on )saiah 89167. )n that verse )saiah says that the niverse was not created chaotically. $he second verse is anaction verse where it says that the world became toh waw boh a rbbish dmp( withot form and void. $he thirdverse ths shows restoration. $hose who hold this position inclde &ohn ;ilton( ' ) Scofield( ;errill Unger and( ,rthr'stance.

$his position also has problems1 JaK )n the Hebrew grammar in that by the rles of Hebrew grammar verse 2 is acircmstantial clase which wold favor the 'lassical position. JbK )t has allowed the possibility of geological ages.

    , ;+AE/ I)E"

$his is very poplar amongst the intellectals of today and appears in many modern translations inclding the ewEnglish @ible. )n this view verses 6 and 2 are dependent and lead p to verse 0. $his shows chaos and e%isting materialprior to creation. ,ll the liberals hold this view. $his view has a fatal ob#ection in that it e%cldes e% nihilo creationJcreation ot of nothingK. God is seen resing materials at creation.

    '+'LUS)+S IE/SES 6 $+ 0

$he state of the earth and sea in verse 2 is sch that there is dar!ness and chaos. God is perfect3 His wor!s are perfect.$his sitation is incompatible with the 'haracter of God. God did not prodce a rbbish dmp. $he fact that the Spirit ofGod is brooding over the waters wold indicate restoration rather than original creation as the Holy Spirit has a ministry

of restoration. He restores sinfl man into fellowship with God with the Lord &ess 'hrist being not only the 'reator btalso the creator of salvation by His wor! on the 'ross.

;any creationists are overly concerned abot the gap allowing evoltion into the area and ths discard the gap theory. )tis however totally compatible with holding the gap theory( that the rbbish dmp formed( was formed by satanic revolt(and still hold a yong earth perspective with an age of less than 6>(>>> years for this planet. )t is also compatible withthe fact that physical death did not occr ntil after the fall. $he first recorded physical death in the @ible is that of theanimal which was !illed by God to provide s!ins for covering man!ind after the fall.

    , PE/S+,L I)E"

$he heavens and earth were created originally by the Lord &ess 'hrist. ,ngels were created at abot that time andsang together indicating total nity. Satan who was the personal attendant of the Lord &ess 'hrist( the covering cherband was the most beatifl of the creatres ever to come from the hand of God. Satan later revolted against God andattempted a cop dNetat. ? )saiah 68162?69. )n the ensing trmoil the earth( which had originally been created perfectbecame toh waw boh( a rbbish dmp. @ecase of his revolt( in which one third of the angels #oined Satan( he and hisangels were sentenced to eternity in the La!e of -ire ? ;atthew 29186.

$o demonstrate the fairness of this sentence God refrbished the earth and placed on it a creatre who was lower thanthe angels bt eipped with free will. God !new that man wold se his free will at some point in the ftre against Godby failing the volitional test of the trees( and therefore provided his own Son in eternity past as a sacrifice for their sin.;an did fail and as a reslt Satan became the prince of the world. $he Lord &ess 'hrist strategically defeated Satan atthe cross and will retrn as ing of ings and Lord of Lords to reign on the earth.

)n eternity ftre believers will en#oy everlasting fellowship with the $rinity and the elect angels while nbelievers willsffer with Satan and the fallen angels in the la!e of fire. $he angels both good and evil are watching s all the time( theelect angels re#oice every time when a person believes in 'hrist

$his view allows me to accept that the geological ages and evoltion are a myth( that the geological strata and fossils area reslt of oahNs -lood. )t implies that dinosars coe%isted with man and that ,dam was the first man with the animalscreated dring the refrbishment wee! being the first living things created other than the angels. 'onservatives woldnot consider the modern theory and whilst the gap theory appears to be the most compatible view of these three versesit is recognised that there are good conservative 'hristians who follow both the classical and gap positions.

had already been withdrawn. )t is noted that Eden means delight. God provided for man a Garden of Aelight.

$he place where believers were accommodated awaiting the resrrection of 'hrist was called Paradise( which is derivedfrom the Persian word meaning garden of the ing. ,gain we have the word OchayimN meaning lives( so that it was thetree of lives. )f man ate of the tree he had contining spirital and physical lives. ,fter the fall he was banned from thetree becase sin had made him sb#ect to two deaths( spirital and physical. )n verse 2> it is of note that God named fivethings( day( night( atmosphere( earth and sea while man named the plants and animals.

$here are a nmber of theories abot the location of the garden1?

$he Liberal Iiew F says that it is a myth and does not e%ist anywhere other than in the psyche of man. $he ancientpeoples they say believed this was the area from which the rivers of eternal life came. $he epic of Gilgamish is ane%ample of this. )n the ancient world we often have a goddess holding a vase ot of which is poring water. ,t her feet isa serpent. $his is a remembrance of the temptation and the sorce of eternal life in Genesis 0169.

$he ineteenth 'entry Iiew was that there were two rivers heading towards the @lac! Sea which Ar yle called theGishon and Pishon and with maniplation of the langage was able to verify some of the geographic locations.

$he -lood Iiew F there was sch a place as the Garden of Eden bt the garden was eradicated by the -lood. "e woldhold to the -lood Iiew. )n E5e!iel 27 we see Satan in the holy garden of God. $his confirms that it was on a high hill. )twas also in a cooler climate.. )t is noted that Gree! gods always sed to live in montains. )t contines as a theme rightthe way throgh the Sermon on the ;ont( ;t ion and the ;ont of $ransfigration..

E5e!iel 0617(< F tal!s abot the cedars of the garden of God which showed that the climate was temperate rather thantropical. )n verse 67 the L+/A God said( )t is not good that the man shold be alone. ;an is the only one in his species ? maleand female came in one pac!age. ;en and woman are very similar. God says he needs fellowship in the same species. He therefore made a helper appropriate for him. $he word for helper is e5er and is sed in the Psalms for God. $he roleof the woman is seen as the e5er for man. She is designed to flfil ,dam as no other part of creation can. "omanalways embellishes things.

God cold have ta!en some more dst and created woman. )f this were done the inter relationship and mtaldependency fond in man!ind wold not have been so strong. ;en and women generally cannot get along withot eachother e%ception when a person is given the spirital gift of celibacy 6 'orinthians =. +ne is incomplete withot the other.

)n verses 69?6= we have had the man who has been the sb#ect of special revelation in the form of God spea!ing to him.$he fact that God does not spea! to the woman shows that man is the mediator of the family and the head of the familybeing ltimately responsible to God. $he operation here gave rise to hman se%ality. )t is also of note that even in aperfect environment man was still reired to wor! as he had to dress the garden.

$he beasts of the field and the fowls of the air came throgh to be named by man. $he animals involved are those thatwold be fond in a farm field not all the animals. ,dam began to stdy and name them. He therefore began theinterpretation of general revelation withot any commentary from God. Previosly God has named the earth( sea( light(day night and other things. ;an names the animals. ,dam is created crios and wor!s with that criosity in the perfectenvironment. God delegated his athority to ,dam. He does not interfere with his own delegated athority. Evil can bedefined as simply re#ection of GodNs will. Aisobedience to His will means participation in evil. )n many areas yo do notget special revelation bt yo do get principles from the Scriptres.

;an was to have dominion over the plants and animals bt has no power to change daylight( control the weather(

GodNs viewpoint is that thesoltion to manNs problem is regeneration( relationship with God.

;an started ot with perfect environment and cold not ma!e the grade and sinned. othing from perfect environmentto poor environment will ever solve manNs problems. Unless yo have a right relationship with God yo cannot have aright relationship with men. $here is an irony here becase had ,dam and Eve sbmitted to God every time ,dam wentpast the tree of the !nowledge of good and evil and he remained positive towards God then Eve wold have remained

an Oe5erN for him for good. @ecase of the fall at the tree of the !nowledge of good and evil Eve became a helper to manto sin. "oman is atomatically a helper either for good or evil.

)n relation to salvation( man needs salvation( the woman broght the Savior into the world throgh her womb. )n the@ible wisdom is said to be female as it is the tool which man ses( it is a helper. @efore a blessing or provision comesinto yor life there has often been a long period of preparation.

$he period of preparation may well have been frstrating. God trains s to appreciate what He is going to give s beforehe actally gives it to s.
