From “high performance” to “basic”.

The SITRANS P pressure transmitter stands for measuring accuracy,

durability and especially for technically advanced user-friendliness. But

being technically advanced also comes with its responsibilities. That’s why

we developed a new device version which also offers you robust, self-

diagnostics – plant monitoring and self-monitoring, error diagnostics for

higher-than-critical measurements, signaling when calibration is due and

many more “monitoring functions”.

For example, the SITRANS P DS III features self-test functions and meets

all the demands for fail-safe operation. The transmitter is suitable for use

in SIL*) 2 measurement loops according to IEC 61508/IEC 61511. The

SITRANS P DS III is an effective means to prevent errors. This functionality

comes at no extra charge since it is a basic feature of the standard version

of SITRANS P DS III. SITRANS P DS III ensures safe data transmission via an

optional PROFIsafe protocol right through to distributed I/Os.

Anything goes. Themodularity of the SITRANS P is also beneficial:since sensor-specific data is stored in themeasuring cell, the potted electronics modulecan be replaced without a problem. In theevent of a problem the 100 : 1 turndownallows a single transmitter to serve as back-up to many different ranges thus reducingthe quantity and cost of spares.

Classy communicationsIn addition to local configuration using themagnetic pushbuttons, you can configurethe SITRANS P transmitter remotely via HARTor PROFIBUS. You can even capture criticalpressure and temperature excursions usingso-called “Min/Max pointers”.

Reliability for the process, reduced downtime for your plant, higher quality for the produced goods – can a

transmitter make a big difference?

It certainly can, once it makes the step from a simple “value indicator” to a “value analyzer”. Like the

SITRANS P, the first transmitter with integrated diagnostic functions. It monitors itself and other process

conditions in your plant at regular intervals.

All in all, SITRANS P helps plant operators and increases user confidence in the process pressure information.

Advanced transmitter diagnostics withSITRANS P means:

Dual elapsed time registers – these can be set upto signal when Preventative maintenance orCalibration is required.

Three freely adjustable limits:That means you can implement pre-alarms and/ormonitor the temperature.

A record of the limit violations:Based on maximum pointers for min./max. valuesfor input pressure, sensor temperature and elec-tronic temperature. The record provides informa-tion on the status of the new SITRANS P, on theprocess and on the ambient temperature.

Simulation function:Enabling the transmitter electronics and the entireloop to be checked directly after the sensor, e.g.for system startup. This provides important infor-mation on whether the transmitter electronicsare in proper order, at what pressure the limitsrespond and whether the controller loop is workingproperly and all the displays are functioning, etc.

Easy plug-out/plug-in exchange of defective parts:– even on-site – if the device signals an error inthe electronics or measuring cell; no recalibrationrequired.

Just a matter of adjustmentThree pushbuttons and a high-contrast LCD is all you need to set theparameters on-site. You can set theminimum and maximum measure-ment range, adjust the damping ofthe output and the failsafe directionHi or Low – all without having to openthe cover on the transmitter, thusmaintaining the hazardous area rating.You can also change from linear tosquare root or adjust the measure-ment range up to a ratio of 100 : 1at the push of a button. Electronicdamping of up to 100 s can be se-lected. It is also possible to select upto 17 different pressure engineeringunits.

And what if you’re looking for themost convenient way to check thecurrent loop? Then the SITRANS Pcan be put into a current source modeto facilitate loop checkout.

No hard work with HARTOf course, you can also use the HARTprotocol to set all the transmitterparameters using a HART communi-cator, laptop or PC or any HART-compatible process control system.Using HART, all parameters and diag-nostic information can be viewedat any point in the signal loop.

The software SIMATIC PDM makesthis very easy for the user.

Digital fieldbus communicationsvia PROFIBUSIn reality, it’s just an interface. But italso gives users access to fully digitalcommunications via PROFIBUS PA,even in hazardous areas. ThePROFIBUS device can communicatethe process values and diagnosticinformation in a single digital com-munication.

That means SITRANS P can easily com-municate with PROFIBUS-compatibleprocess control systems such asSIMATIC PCS 7 and others. SIMATICPDM (Process Device Manager) makesinstalling and operating a snap.

The SITRANS P DS III transmitter features a special safety standard for pressure, differential

pressure, absolute pressure and fill level. The transmitter is suitable for use in SIL 2

measurement loops according to IEC 61508/IEC 61511. Safety-related functions include

automatic error diagnostics, defined error handling as well as calculation of the error rate.

With the safety values calculated inaccordance with IEC 61511 and afailure rate of once in 300 years, theSITRANS P DS III is designed for usein plants where safety and reliabilityare paramount. And since this is ourstandard device, you pay nothing ex-tra for this feature.

A special advantage:With only one SITRANS P DS III thesame safety level can be reached aswith two conventional transmitters.

That means you save the costs ofan extra transmitter, including theinstallation and maintenance costs,extra wiring and extra isolatingpower supplies. Not to mentionthe cabinet space you save!

Just like the SITRANS P DS III, theSITRANS P300 stands for precise measur-ing and ruggedness, and especially for aninnovative operating concept. With theSITRANS P300, these time-proven featuresare now also available for processes in thefood & beverage and pharmaceuticalindustries.

With a maximum error of measurementof 0.075%, a sanitary stainless steel hous-ing with laser-inscribed name plate, andthe time-proven SITRANS P DS III operatingphilosophy, it fits in perfectly with theSITRANS P product range.

Cleaning and sterilization in place duringmeasurement result in no drift up to thespecified temperature range of 482 °F/250 °C. Evaluation of the cleaning processis supported by drag pointers which recordthe minimum and maximum sensor tem-per-ature values. The process data can beread out through a HART, PROFIBUS PA orFoundation Fieldbus interface.

The P300 series

The SITRANS P300 can also be combinedwith absolute and relative pressure measur-ing cells. The range of process connectionsincludes connections for the food & beverageindustry, the pharmaceuticals industry, thepaper industry going all the way to commonthread and flange variants.

An important feature of the measuring cellsis the process connection, which is weldedtogether with the measuring cell diaphragm.Thus there are no seals on the process side,which could be a possible hiding place forbacteria. The roughness of all components

that come into contact with the measuredsubstance is ensured according to EHEDG.This also applies to the welding seamsmentioned above.

It is also worth mentioning the optionalextended temperature range up to 250 °C/482 °F, which allows the transmitters tobe used in applications for which remoteseals had to be used in the past. This iswhere the SITRANS P300 stands outthanks to its increased accuracy of mea-surement and shorter delivery times ascompared to remote seals.

Blind setting – no reason tosacrifice measuring accuracyDo you think making blind settingswithout a pressure source is conve-nient, but not what you are used to?Then you’ll be quick to appreciatepower of this feature of SITRANS P.

This method of setup utilizes theinherent precision of the capsule toset the desired lower and upper rangevalues.

Consistent precision –despite rough surroundingsIf you were wondering what aSITRANS P can take in real-life use,then visit our test labs. We test eachdevice there under extreme condi-tions before delivery.

Differential transmitters are subjectedto pressures of up to 9000 psi/630 bar, pressure transmitters aresubjected to six times the maximummeasured value. Tests have evenshown that, based on their high me-chanical integrity, cells which wereoriginally designed for a maximumpressure of 5800 psi/400 bar canwithstand pressures exceeding 1000bar without a problem, thanks to theirmechanical safety – i.e. without beingdestroyed. It’s no wonder that theSITRANS P has received so many in-ternational certifications and approvalratings. Even the WIB – an internation-al group of process device users –has confirmed the outstanding dura-bility and safety level of SITRANS P.

Metal housingfor any applicationWe could have made do with a plastichousing for the electronics. But wewanted to offer maximum durabilityand ruggedness and wouldn’t settlefor the second-best solution even forany of the details: that’s why wechose a metal housing.

The SITRANS P range even offers theright solution for applications inextremely aggressive media. Devicessubject to highly corrosive conditionscome equipped with an isolatingdiaphragm made of stainless steel,Hastelloy, tantalum, monel or gold,and the electronics housing comesin either cast aluminum or stainlesssteel.

Remote sealsThese pressure accessories are usedto measure hot, aggressive, highlyviscous or crystallizing mediums.They come in the following versions:

The SITRANS P Compact is an analogtransmitter for measuring absoluteand gage pressure. It was developedwith the special requirements of thefood-and-beverage/pharmaceuticals/biotechnology industries in mind. Thedevices are designed to meet thehygienic recommendations of EHEDG,FDA and GMP. A number of asepticprocess connections made of stainlesssteel and a stainless steel housing(IP67) were included in the Compactseries to meet the more stringenthygienic requirements. High surfacequality was a special focus, with anoption to electropolish the system.Our pressure measurement specialist“Compact” complements its cleaningand sterilization process (CIP, SIP) withno-drift, error-free functionality.

In the Z series, we use two types ofdiaphragm materials: stainless steelor ceramic. That makes measuringprocess pressure, absolute pressureand hydrostatic pressure a breeze.You can set the pressure measuredwith these sensors to be transformedinto either a 4–20 mA or 0–10 Vsignal.

The digital pressure transducerSITRANS P ZD also features a dis-play and 10 : 1 turndown option. Thehousing and process connection aremade of stainless steel. The digitaldisplay is available as a radial or axialassembly to the process connection.
