Beim DS-164 ist das kein Problem – dank des Niederländers Hugo de Ruiter. Er wollte mit der Integration von dynamischen Elementen ein Möbel gestalten, das vielfältig genutzt werden kann, ohne dabei an Eleganz zu verlieren. Die Grundidee einer verschiebbaren Rückenlehne, um all diese Anforderungen zu bedienen, war schnell gefunden.

Die Umsetzung in ein funktionieren-des Möbel, das von den Fesseln der linearen Gesetzmässigkeiten losgelöst ist, war allerdings eine Herausforde-rung – mit durchschlagendem Erfolg: Mit den sich um 360° drehbaren Rückenlehnen beim DS-164 wurde im Jahr 2003 ein weiteres Kapitel der Schweizer Möbelgeschichte geschrie-ben. With DS-164, it’s no problem – thanks to Dutch designer Hugo de Ruiter. By integrating dynamic elements, he wanted to design a piece of furniture that could be used in a wide variety of ways without losing its elegance. The basic idea of a movable backrest that would meet all these requirements was quickly found.

But executing this as a functioning piece of furniture free of the fetters of the laws of linearity posed a chal-lenge – one met with decisive success: with the 360° rotatable backrests on DS-164, another chapter in Swiss furniture history was written in 2003. By de Sede, of course.
