A survey of 19 newspapers, magazines and digital publications from Germany, the US and the UK with regard to their use of Twitter shows the following - with over 12m Twitter followers, the New York Times is clearly ahead of Techcrunch with 3,5m followers - German magazines Stern, Spiegel and Tabloid Bild have gained a remarkable following in the 300-450,000 followers range - with a follower/following range of 50-100,000 Gigaom, Business Insider, New York Times are well ahead of the other publishers - with 140-160,000 Tweets, German magazine Focus and Business Insider are the most active Twitter accounts - Om Malik of Gigaom is the Journalist with most Twitter followers - Top Tweeters are Mathew Ingram from Gigaom and Joe Weisenthal from Business Insider - Apart from the UK, usually the Chief Editor is the most popular Journalist on Twitter - still, this is more dominant in Germany (in 6 out of 7 publications) than in the US (2 out of 5) Publications surveyed: Germany: Bild, Die Welt, Die Zeit, FAZ, Focus, Handelsblatt, Spiegel Online, Stern, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Wirtschaftswoche US: Business Insider, Gigaom, Inc, New York Times, Pando Daily, Re/code, Techcrunch, Wallstreet Journal Europe UK: The Guardian
