Message from the Faithful Navigator

Sir Knights:This is a difficult time to be a Catholic. Catholic Doctrine is open to confusing interpretations when considered alongside the mixed messages coming from seemingly moral and trustworthy sources…

I mentioned at the last meeting that the New York Times, (April 17, 2021), reported that the Biden Administration had lifted the ban on the use of fetal tissue for medical research, reversing rules imposed by the previous Administration. This renews the legality of using human tissue, derived from elective abortions, to study and develop treatments for diseases. This action came from our Catholic President.

Previous to that ruling, the Vatican, in late 2020, stated that it was, “morally

acceptable,” to take the

research orproduction involved using cell lines derived from aborted fetuses.

Closer to home, just over a year ago, one of our very own Past Grand Knights was denied permission to display a Knight’s banner, in front of the church, that asked parishioners to pray the Rosary for the unborn. The Pastor wanted to be welcoming to all beliefs.

Where’s the refuge and solitude from these antonymous messages coming from Catholic sources? The answer is the Knights of Columbus. One of the most heartening benefits I enjoy from my membership in the Knights is its member’s unwavering respect of the Catholic teachings upon which we were raised. I find comfort in knowing that I am among quality men that share the same definition of what it means to be a Fine Catholic Gentleman.

My term as your Faithful Navigator is in its

twilight. I wish I could say that I lead the charge on multiple projects that valiantly reinforced the mission of our organization, but it was just one of those years. But, I take pride in knowing that our Catholic organizational values have managed to be preserved again this year, despite the confusing and disheartening messages from the outside. We all seem to agree on the core values of our Catholicism. I’m proud to be a member of this group.

Welcome to our assembly SK Rick Green. Rick recently transferred from Assembly 76 in Redwood, California. He is also a member of Council 14544.

Please remember to attend our Assembly Meeting, this Wednesday, May 19, at 7:15P.M. The meeting will be held at St. Joseph Husband of Mary.This is an important meeting, as we will be electing officers for the new fraternal year and discussing fundraising plans for the new season.Please bring your masks just in case. The guidance of fathers is essential for the child during childhood, adolescence and even after they have grown into an adult.

New Favors Reported Through Father McGivney’s Help

Since the K of C founder’s beatification in October 2020, faithful around the world continue to report answered prayers due to his intercession.

Let us pray that those in charge of finance will work with governments to regulate the financial sphere and protect citizens from its dangers.

How to receive a plenary indulgence for the Year of St. Joseph

A plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayers for the intentions of the

Holy Father) to the faithful who, with a heart free from all attachment to sin, participate in the Year of St. Joseph by any of the following ways:

a. Meditate on the Lord’s Prayer for at least 30 minutes or spend at least one day on a spiritual retreat which includes a meditation on St. Joseph

b. Following the example of St. Joseph, complete a spiritual or corporal work of mercy

c. Recite the rosary as a family or as an engaged couple

d. Entrust your daily activity to the protection of St. Joseph and pray to St. Joseph to intercede for those who are seeking work and for everyone’s work to be more dignified.

e. Recite the Litany of St. Joseph or the Akathist hymn to St. Joseph, or another prayer to St. Joseph particular to another liturgical tradition, for the persecuted Church and for the relief of all persecuted Christians

f. Recite another appropriate prayer or pious act in honor of St. Joseph (e.g. the “To Thee, O Blessed Joseph”) especially on March 19 (Solemnity of St. Joseph), May 1 (Feast of St. Joseph the Worker), the Feast of the Holy Family, the Sunday of St. Joseph (in the Byzantine Tradition), the 19th of each month, and every Wednesday

Given the present circumstances, the gift of a plenary indulgence is especially imparted to the elderly, the sick, the suffering and all who are not able to leave their homes for legitimate reasons if, detesting each of their sins and with the intention of fulfilling, as soon as possible the three usual conditions, either at home or wherever they are detained, offer pious prayers in honor of St. Joseph, the solace of the sick and the patron of a happy death, with the sorrows and inconveniences of their life confidently offered to our merciful God.
