Aim of the project

• Modernization of BSc/MSc educational standards in biotechnology and bioengineering within specialization, qualification framework, modern requirements for Life-Long-Learning with elements of TUNING-technologies, Dublin descriptors, distant learning and control according to ECTS,European Qualification Framework (EQF);

• Introduction of choice of modernized BSc/MSc curricula in biotechnology and bioengineering in the universities of RB and RF on the national and international levels within the demands of industry and business. Application of the developed study materials taking into account present educational system of full-time and part-time forms of training in biotechnology and bioengineering; teaching experience in other areas of higher education: Agricultural (Agrobiotechnology in the Republic of Belarus as an example – Grodno State Agrarian University and Grodno State Medical University)

• Improvement of cooperation between higher education and business society, taking into consideration practical importance, market demand, demand for further education and know-how transfer.

Objectives of the project in the framework of basic actions

- Stocktaking of current state of affairs and educational situation in the sphere of biotechnology in RF, RB and EU;

- Study of university-partners’ experience in development and improvement of BSc/MSc curricula and standards in biotechnology; adaptation of curricula and state standards to international and european standards by development of new bilingual and module curriculum;

- development of qualification frameworks for graduates with biotechnological specialization within conditions and requirements for recognition of academic results according to ECTS and Dublin descriptors;

- approbation of advanced technologies for support of educational process quality and Qualification frameworks for BSc/MSc biotechnologists;

- introduction of Master’s course for distant study: development of information and communication portal for MSc distant training in biotechnology;

- organization of 6 methodical centers in the partner universities as a coordination unit for coordination and support of project aims and objectives and spread of project results as well as professional orientation in the sphere of biotechnological education;

- development of study materials: 2 textbooks in Russian and English, СD-disc with methodical materials, curricula samples, instructions on organization of academic process and exams, state standards on BSc/MSc specilalities;

- development of ECTS-Information Package for new BSc/MSc specialities;

- language training of professors, development of textbooks and guides; didactic manuals.

Planned results and further activity

1. Development of main principles of infrastructure and conditions for realization of international educational programme within Bologna Process for BSc/MSc training in biotechnology at the universities of EU, RF and RB.

2. Use of experience, advanced technologies in the sphere of biotechnological education for creation of common European higher education area and Life-Long-Learning.

3. Detection and coordination of quality standards for new BSc/MSc programmes, similar in structure an quality to leading Western and Eastern analog. The further work on recognition of educational documents in the framework of Bologna Process and in specialties accreditation.

4. Modernization of the training of students-biotechnologers within modern requirements from employees and actual biotechnological industry demands .

5. Organization of international scientific center (Eurobiotech, www.eurobiotech.ru).

6. International integration with scientific-educational biotechnological centers in EU countries.

7. Data Banks with curricula, study materials, methodolological strategies, lecture courses, practical courses, subject libraries in EU countries, RF, RB.

8. New textbooks, manuals, study materials.

9. Development of technical basis for distant training via Internet.

10. Initiation of practical work on coordination of curricula, intercrediting system of courses, conditions for obtaining a double diploma in biotechnology.

• Introduction of biotechnological industry in RB is planned by State Programme “Innovatiotive Biotechnologies for 2010 – 2012 and the period to 2015”, which is already being implemented. Planned programme expenses comprise Br 331billions, Br 104 billions of which are from Republican budget. Borrowed current assets, credit funds and own funds of organizations-participants will comprise other allocations .

• The programme intends to create six new enterprises. 28 enterprises will be moderized and 78 biotechnologies will be created. They are supposed to be introduced into production.

• The enterprise specialized in blood plasma processing and obtaining different medicines. E.g. particular proteins which are the factors of blood coagulation can be produced from plasm.

• It is planned to create bacterial concentrate factory for diary enterprises. Such kind of factory is of crucial importance as the major part of bacterial ferments and concentrates are imported. A new enterprise will provide diary complexes with native bacterial concentrates.

• In addition, the proper line for bacterial preparations, ferments and concentrates will be introduced under the Institute of meat and dairy industry.

Grodno State Agrarian University was established on September, 17, 1951 according to the Decree of Ministers’ Council of USSR No. 145 as Grodno Agricultural Institute.

The Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, July, 19, 2000, No. 208 the Institute was reorganized as Grodno State Agrarian University.

At present 7 227 students study at GrSAU.

In 2010 Grodno State Agrarian University got a Certificate of Quality Management(DINENISO9001:2008)

History

 • The Grodno State Medical University was founded on August 9, 1958. Initially there

was the only one medical faculty.• Later, in 1970 a preparatory department was opened, in 1979 a pediatric faculty

started its work. • The University became the first one in Belarus to open the Department of Nurses with

higher education in 1991 and the Faculty of Medical Psychology in 1993. • Since 1995 foreign students have been studying here. • In 2000 Grodno State Medical University• gained the University status.

• In 2010 Grodno State Medical University got a Certificate of Quality Management (DINEN ISO9001:2008)
