Typically Engineering disciplines use a great variety of risk analysis tools to increase safety of their products, e.g. in aerospace. Basis is the analysis of failure modes, like in the FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis), etc.
Insurance companies need to quantify the risk related to insurance contracts. The calculations are based on a large number of historic data.
Typically used by banks to quantify the risk related to the granting of credit funds. The calculations are based on a wealth of data available from the historic records.

Note:Risk Management needs to be taylored to each project. If risk analysis is absent, appropriate measures cannot be taken and the risk of damage/loss is may be high.If risk analysis is over-prioritized, the project might not proceed to being operational or be much delayed.

Risk Avoidance(prevention)
e.g. accept loss when it occurs, either because the loss is negligible,or there is no insurance possible (likepremium to insure against hurricane)etc.
e.g. buy insurance
e.g. take protective measures
e.g. prevention
* Insurance does not protect from damage of reputation
