Saint Canera, patroness of Irish Sailors, is sitting in a boat with an oil lamp, the symbol of wisdom and virginity, with a monastery on an island in the background where she sought spiritual rest. She was refused
entrance to the island but was given Eucharist just before she died. The shamrock speaks to her Irish ancestry.

USCCB RESOURCES and REFLECTIONS on the END of LIFE
We know earthly death is not the end, but rather the door through which we must pass to gain eter-nal life. Because of our belief and hope in the Resurrection, we can face death not with fear, but with preparation. Although certainly not compre-hensive, the following considerations are provided as starting points for understanding and preparing for this transition, whether it is imminent or not. https://www.respectlife.org/end-of-life-considerations
USCCB Launches National Civility Effort Through 2020 Election (USCCB)
One year ahead of the 2020 national elections, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is launching a year-long initiative that invites Catholics to model civility, love for neigh-bor, and respectful dialogue. "Civilize It: Dignity Beyond the Debate" will ask Catholics to pledge civility, clarity, and compassion in their families, communities, and parishes, and call on others to do the same. You can take the pledge at https://www.wearesaltandlight.org/civilize-it The initia-tive is built on the recognition that every person-even those with whom we disagree-is a beloved child of God who possesses inherent dignity. Sup-porting materials for the initiative, including ideas to help Catholics and others of goodwill to engage in and model respect and compassion, can be found at https://www.wearesaltandlight.org/civilize-it/resources

Acts of Kindness for Advent, an alternative advent calendar.
An Advent calendar for giving is a wonderful way to begin the Christmas season. Many people use Advent calendars for giving small gifts and treats daily to their youngsters. Others have activ-ities that are tucked into each day, for the child or family to do that day.
Reverse advent calendars work by you filling them every day with items of food or clothing that can then be taken to a food bank or charity in order to help those less fortunate that are struggling at Christmas time.
A Reverse Advent Calendar is a great way to give to a food bank or family in need. You can have your own at home, or contribute to the one St. Canera will keep in the Narthex. Please note that the items listed below are only suggestions.
Music practice is after PSR classes on Sundays or
after Mass when there is no PSR. And, on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM.
We welcome new voices!
Bright Futures Backpack program needs your help to provide food for children who don’t have enough to eat. Suggested do-nations include: ravioli, Easy Mac, and peanut butter (16 oz). Please place your items in the marked container in the vestibule. Thank you for your generous donations!!

sponsoring our calendars again this year!
Solemnity of Immaculate Conception Please note that the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (normally celebrated on December 8) is transferred this year to Mon., Dec. 9. While it maintains its liturgical rank as a Solemnity, it is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this year .
We will have a Mass for the Solemnity of the Im-maculate Conception on Monday, December 9 at 6:00 PM in the Church.
This is a special day in the life of our nation since the Virgin Mary, under her title of the “Immaculate Conception”, is the patroness of the United States of America.

Mass Intentions and Mass Offerings
We currently have many days without as-
signed Mass Intentions for the new year. Our
Mass Intention schedule is set on a first come first
serve basis. As determined by Diocesan policy,
the suggested Mass offering is $10; however, no
one will be denied an intention because of inabil-
ity to pay.
The new Code of Canon Law refers to Mass
offerings rather than Mass stipends. This is an
effort to avoid the suggestion of a quid pro quo
exchange of goods for services.
Please be aware that the Diocesan requirements
will take precedence and if Mass is cancelled your
intention will rescheduled.

1st Sunday of Advent
Waiting, even for good things, might not be very pleasant. We always feel certain impatience, particularly if we have been given an approxi-mate time in which things might occur. Waiting also has advantages; it makes us reflect deeply; it intensifies the desire for something to happen; it often makes us reexamine relationships, reasons, and motivations for our wait; and it forces us to prepare. In these preparations—particularly when we wait for the coming of a person we love or the birth of a new family member—the real love that we have for the person expected be-comes very clear. As we prepare, love is likely to grow. Love grows with waiting and preparing. When we are asked for vigilance to wait for the coming of Christ, is not so that we can grow frustrated, but so that we have an opportunity to prepare by reflecting on the person we wait for, while we do good works that invite us to more and more love, and we deepen into the desire for salvation and justice that Christ will bring. It is almost unthinkable that someone would be wait-ing for a loved one by being unfaithful. The same thing happens with the promise of the coming of Christ. Until he comes, let us be watchful, that is, attentive to what in our hearts we consider is God’s desire for us; this way, we will be able to offer him the fruit of our love. To say that Christ is King is to recognize the living Christ—the one who gives us life from the cross—is the Lord we love, listen to, and obey; and he is the only one who can build a kingdom of peace and reconciliation.

Diocesan Stewardship Message
It is easy to take for granted that we will be around tomorrow or next week or next year. Those who have serious health issues, or their loved ones – or people who have experienced the sudden loss of a family member or friend tend to view things differ-ently. They have a greater appreciation for each day. Try to look at each day as a gift. You may begin to see life from a new viewpoint and grow in gratitude for the gifts God has given you.
Did you know....
