DESSAU-ROSSLAU – THE “BAUHAUS”-CITY

Dessau-Roßlau is a twin city and one of the biggest in Saxony-Anhalt. Dessau-Roßlau is

located in the middle of an extensive � oodplain directly on the Elbe River. The „Bauhaus“

City is world-famous for its “Bauhaus” Building and its “Masters‘ Houses” of Walther Gropius

(you can � nd his impressive architecture all around the world).

The technical museum of „Hugo Junkers“, birthplace of aviation and the Garden Realm

Dessau-Wörlitz welcomes you as well. The “Bauhaus” Building together with the “Masters‘

House” in Dessau and the Garden Realm Dessau-Wörlitz are adapted to the UNESCO list of

World Cultural Heritage.

The excellent transport connection makes Dessau popular for foreign group tours. You reach

Magdeburg, Leipzig, Halle and Berlin in just one hour and so you can

diversify your stay or seminar.

OUR YOUTH HOSTEL

Opened in 2007, our hostel lies on the edge of a city wood in a leafy district of Dessau. Not far

from downtown Dessau and the Masters‘ Houses, our house offers you a conveniently located

and modern place to stay. With our large playground facility as well

as seminar rooms, we’re ideally suited for families, school groups,

and seminar groups. Those who are interested in sports, our

Beach Volleyball court, a large � eld for sports and games,

table tennis, billiards and our disco are available. Let the

evening fade away at the camp� re or relax on the terrace.

And a small GDR (German Democratic Republic) museum will

give you an insight about German history.

Our hostel works close to the motto „share the experience“. Supervisors and directors stay in

separate rooms close to the group and are as far as possible they are

exempt from the organizational effort.

Our program partners are trained educators and professionals

and do a � rst class and competent job in English. We can

guarantee � xed cost and a „comprehensive package“ of

bene� ts.

THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME MODULES FOR YOUR INDIVIDUAL JOURNEY

IT IS ALL ABOUT “BAUHAUS”. Designed by Walter Gropius the Bauhaus building is known

worldwide as a part of the UNESCO world heritage. It is considered a „built manifesto of the

Bauhaus ideas.“ Kandinsky, Klee, Feininger and other famous artists inhabited the “Masters‘

Houses”, which are belong to the most important modern buildings. And at least you will

visit the settlement “Dessau-Törten”, which was built by Gropius too and was home for the

other artists and students in the 20th and 30th of the last century. Have a look at the com-

plete Bauhaus architecture in one day.

WATER PARK “WOLIDAY” & “MOVIE PARK WOLFEN”. Enjoy this day trip and visit the largest

water park in the region and the famous movie park in Wolfen, where the � rst color � lm was

produced. Learn something about � lm production.

“HUGO JUNKERS”. The Technology Museum offers almost everything about the aviation

pioneer Hugo Junkers and it is in possession of many gems such as the famous “JU 52”, the

most important type of aircraft in history of aviation.

CANOEING ON THE ELBE RIVER. Discover a fantastic

landscape on and along the Elberiver and have a good

time in our great nature. You can combine the day

trip with a bike tour.

FEDERAL ENVIRONMENT AGENCY (UMWELTBUNDESAMT). Visit the unique “Umweltbundes-

amt” and see a building in shape and style. It was built under ecological aspects and is the

central of� ce of the German environment agency.

TOUR TO LUTHERSTADT WITTENBERG AND THE GARDEN REALM DESSAU-WÖRLITZ. Have

a great tour to the word heritages of UNESCO. Visiting the “Lutherstadt” you will get great

insights to the place where the Reformation started. The protestant world was celebrating

500 years of Reformation in 2017 and you can see the door where Martin Luther

posted his theses, the city church, the castle church, the marketplace and the Luther house

with the biggest museum of reformation worldwide. Combine your Daytrip with the “Garden

Realm Dessau-Wörlitz”. The unique � ora of the � rst English garden will inspire you.

ARRIVAL

BY TRAIN AND BUS (FROM DESSAU CENTRAL STATION “HAUPTBAHNHOF”):

• from Dessau Central Station, take bus line 10 or 11 to the stop labeled “Jugendherberge”

BY CAR OR BUS COMING ON THE A9:

• take the „Dessau Ost“ exit in the direction of “Oranienbaum“

• then take the B185 in the direction of “Dessau”

• turn right at the � rst major intersection onto the B184 / “Kavalierstraße”

(Direction “Hauptbahnhof”)

• after 500 m, turn left on the “Friedrichstraße” (sign: Bauhaus/Aken)

• keep right in the direction of “Antoinettenstraße” / “Puschkinallee”

• continue on and take the second exit at the circle (“Ebertallee”)

• the hostel is located on the left-hand side after about 900 m
