A French network of cycling friendly cities and local authorities founded in 1989. More than 250 members today. §  2012: Founding of a

parliamentary group for cycling

§  2016: Founding of Cycling Made in France platform

Indemnité kilométrique vélo (IKV) = cycling kilometric allowance  

 à Since February 2016 in France à 0,25€/km à For voluntary companies only: private sector employees + officials of the Ministry of sustainable development and the Ministry of Housing  

IKV – How does it work? •  Free of charge for employers and free of

taxation on income for employees at a maximum of 200€/year

•  For voluntary companies only: private sector employees + officials of the Ministry of sustainable development and Housing

•  Can be cumulated with a public transport reimbursement for commuters who bike to the nearest station

Why introducing IKV? §  Results of the

experimentation conducted by ADEME in 2014 (18 companies)

à  Bike commutes increased by 50%

à  Number of cyclists x 2

absenteeism, •  Health benefits, •  Improving well-

being…

The Observatory •  Collecting data and sharing good practices

with companies •  Strengthening lobbying •  Gathering arguments to make IKV

mandatory and to introduce it in the public service

•  37 companies involved = 21 183 employees

•  More than 300 recipients of IKV

•  All sizes of companies: RTE (8500 employees), Velo-Cité (2 employees)

•  Developing tools for companies (How-to guidebook)

•  Convincing trade unions and professional organizations to promote IKV
