Samoa (samoanisch Malo Saʻoloto Tutoʻatasi o Sāmoa; englisch Independent State of Samoa) ist ein Inselstaat, der den westlichen Teil der Samoainseln umfasst und deswegen – bis 1997 offiziell – auch Westsamoa genannt wird. Außengebiet der USA, bekannt. Samoa liegt im südwestlichen Pazifik nordöstlich von Fidschi. Die größten Inseln sind Savaiʻi (1708 km²) und Upolu (1118 km²) mit der Hauptstadt Apia und dem internationalen Flughafen. Dazu kommen die bewohnten Inseln Manono, Apolima und sechs Inseln, die bis auf eine kleine Ferienanlage auf Namua unbewohnt sind. Die größeren Inseln der Gruppe sind vulkanischen Ursprungs und von schroffen, dicht bewachsenen Berghängen gekennzeichnet. Die kleineren Inseln sind aus Korallenriffs entstanden.

The capital city, Apia, andFaleolo International Airport are situated on the island of Upolu.Samoa was admitted to the United Nations on 15 December 1976.The entire island group, inclusive of American Samoa, was called „Navigator Islands“ by European explorers before the 20th century because of theSamoans' seafaring skills.
