Preußens Kurfürsten und Könige schufen ein faszinierendes Refugium aus Schloss- und Gartenanlagen. Viele Teile des Gesamtkunstwerks, vor allem die historischen Schlösser und Gärten, wurden 1990 zum UNESCO-Welterbe erklärt.

Seit 1685 steht Potsdam per Toleranz-Edikt für kulturelle Vielfalt. Das Holländische Viertel, die Französische Kirche und die Russische Kolonie Alexandrowka laden zum Entde-cken ein. Viele Museen, Gedenk- und Begegnungsstätten beleuchten die jüngere Geschichte der Landeshauptstadt und die traditionellen internationalen Beziehungen. Das Belvedere auf dem Pfingstberg bietet dem Besucher einen einzigartigen Blick auf die Potsdamer Kulturlandschaft bis nach Berlin.

Prussia’s kings and prince electors created a fascinating retreat comprising palaces and parklands. Many parts of the overall ensemble, especially the historic palaces and gardens, were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1990.

Potsdam has represented cultural diversity since the ‘tole-rance edict’ of 1685. The Dutch Quarter, the French Church and the Russian Colony, are all here to be discovered. Many museums, memorials and information spaces exa-mine the recent history of the state capital and its historical international relations. The Belvedere on the Pfingstberg offers visitors unique views over Potsdam’s landscapes extending all the way to Berlin.

Images first started moving in Babelsberg. The world’s first silent film was made here in 1912. Wasser. Seen. Touren. Das blaue Paradies

Potsdam ist idyllisch gelegen – umgeben von Wasser, Wäldern und viel Natur, gleich vor den Toren Berlins. Viele Schlösser und die Innenstadt können vom Wasser aus be-sucht werden. An dieser Stelle formt die Havel viele Seen. Diese können auf einer Rundtour, auf dem Floß, bei einer Schifffahrt, mit dem Wassertaxi oder auf einer geführten Paddeltour entdeckt werden.

Für Nostalgiker ist der Gustav, ein original kohlebeheiz-tes Dampfschiff, ein echtes Highlight – besonders zu den „Nächtlichen Schlösserimpressionen“. Dann fahren die Schiffe der Weißen Flotte durch einen Feuerregen an der Glienicker Brücke. Hier wurden zwischen Ost und West Agenten ausgetauscht. Die Brücke und viele weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten kann man bequem mit dem Fahrrad erreichen. Die kurzen Distanzen und gut ausgebauten Radwege machen das Rad zu einem perfekten Begleiter.

Just outside Berlin, Potsdam is idyllically situated amidst water, woodlands and countryside. Many of its palaces, as well as the city centre, can be visited from the water. The Havel river spreads out into a number of lakes here, which can be discovered on a raft tour, on a boat, by water taxi or on a guided canoe tour.

The nostalgically-minded, however, will prefer Gustav, an original, coal-fired steamer. Especially on the Nocturnal Palace Impressions tour, when the entire fleet sails through the blaze of fireworks at Glienicke Bridge. This is where spies were exchanged during the Cold War. The bridge and many more sights are easy to reach by bicycle. Short distances and excellent cycle paths make bicycles the ideal travelling companions.
