Plurals and compound nouns
• In English, nouns often add –s, –es, or –ies to make the plural (strike strikes, tax taxes, party parties) and some have irregular plural forms (mouse mice). In German, there are several ways to form plurals. Nouns can have no change in the plural or they can add –e, –en, –n, –er, or –s. Some nouns add an Umlaut in the plural. Nouns can be grouped into categories according to how they form the plural.
